The Dems never met a tax they didn't like or could create.

While I don't agree with the proposed method of funding for highways, it does get the conversation started. How are we going to fund the nation's infrastructure?

Well, I’m not shocked that all these Progressive Democrats who are in power now want to tax the hell out of the working man and woman.

This “mileage tax” will only hurt the Working Middle Class since many of these people have to live outside of most of the major urban centers since they cannot afford to buy a house or pay the higher rents within these cities.

As stated before, the government doesn’t have a tax problem, they have a spending problem. And if anybody thinks that this “mileage tax” will be used to fix the infrastructure, within the United States, is a gullible idiot!!

Print the money out of thin air the way we do everything else these days.

Because ever since we abandoned the gold standard, money doesn't have any more intrinsic value than we assign to it.

Hell, a lot of "money" isn't even cash money anymore.....it's just a bunch of numbers floating in the ether of the government and financiall world's files and computers.

Taxes have become more a method of control and social engineering than anything else.

If we can come up with trillions in "Covid relief" with the stroke of a pen.....we can do the same thing for infrastructure.

Having every man, woman, and child on the hook for over $105,000 each of debt is not enough to put on the people.

The "value" of our money supply is based on the underlying value of real goods and services. Create more money with the same real goods and services means each dollar is worth less. That is INFLATION. Hold on!

But the same folks pushing for better fuel efficiency and electric cars are the ones now pushing for a mileage tax. They don't need to raise taxes. If they are getting less revenue from gas taxes, good. The government has done a poor job with all the gas tax revenue on infrastructure. Lets not reward them with more tax money that goes no where.

We do, but the Democrats on the State and Fed level now want and ADDITIONAL TAX due to cars getting better gas mileage, and EV's not using gas. It's coming, so most of us will be paying double taxes which is the norm for government these days. More government pressure to drive less capable EV's.

It is restraint of free travel, period. More Leftist control and bigger and bigger over reaching government.

Thank goodness that both the House and Senate will flip to solid red in November 2022. Then in 2024, we'll get a brand-new Republican president.

Of course, the Dems might get smart and not ram through economy-destroying proposals such as VMT. However, I don't think this is very likely.

Under Bush II, a proposal was to privatize the interstate highway system. That proposal did not even make it out of committee. Somehow these roads have to be maintained. Either way we pay, if the roads are bad it is more car maintenance. In CO, many roads are still dirt; most folks won't settle for that. (We ruined the suspension on one of these roads.)

https://coloradogravelroads.com

Privatization harkens back to the days of toll roads which were very common. The turnpike got its name from its toll gate; the gate was a turnstile consisting of two crossed bars pointed at their outer ends and turned on a vertical bar or pole. Pay the toll and the pikes turn.
