The difference is that the same tax will be applied to electric vehicles. From a certain perspective it makes sense to charge people for road maintenance based on usage. But I would find it disturbing to have the government tracking my mileage. Maybe they will meter us with cameras, they same way they do with toll bridges and toll lanes? Anyway, can a federal tax charge us for using state roads? I would think not.

It's not the miles driven over the roads that cause most of the damage it's usually weight including public transportation vehicles/buses. Even in areas with freeze thaw cycles heavier vehicles are the ones that can make small problems worse.

Privacy issues along the federalization of that driving information is another issue on to itself.

Federal dollars build those state roads. That is why you cant legally buy alcohol in any state until you are 21.

The infrastructure is not "crumbling".

The US spent $40 billion on foreign aid in 2019, and that is not including the billions for military assistance.

So, why is that money not being spent on "crumbling" infrastructure?

This just punishes people who have to drive for work.
People aren't just out there joy riding.
I adamantly oppose it and I work at home.

Exceptionally regressive proposal. Surely a grown up will point out the stupidity of it soon enough.
