Of course. I am not a wealthy limousine liberal living in Brentwood or Malibu behind gated community in their million dollar mansions.

I live in a $600k (as of 2018) townhome in Long Beach. Gotta have protection to protect my family.

Depends on the situation. For in home defense, a shotgun would be superior. Why? Lots of "spread" and minimal penetration of walls that would result in potential injury to people in adjacent rooms. Like an AR, you can have flashlights and lasers attached to rails that make them great for identifying targets at close quarters in the dark.

If you were taking shots at 20 yards plus, the AR would be superior.

The AR is superior to an AK, as it is better at longer ranges, the ammo is lighter, and the weapon is lighter.

This is a common misconception...…… at 20 to 30 feet the shot pattern is minimal. Depending on the shot# chosen, at close range it is about 4 inches.
The rule for shotgun patterning has been that you usually get about 1 inch of spread for every yard from the target. At our distances this would mean:
12 feet = 4 inches
30 feet = 10 inches
50 feet = 16 inches
60 feet = 20 inches
75 feet = 25 inches

All the AR-s I make, have Stainless Steel barrels. They are heavy, in comparison
