Guess it is now. People are recognizing the need to stand up to issues instead of turning a blind eye to the way things have always been. Good on them.
Would you say the same if the athletes were allowed to wear MAGA hats? Or "All Lives Matter" slogans on their jerseys? Or "Back the Blue" buttons?
The Olympics are not the place for social or political commentary. Period. They are for showcasing the best athletes in the world exhibiting their talents and pushing the boundaries of athletic achievement.
I like the Olympics, and I enjoy watching the medal ceremonies. It gives me pride when an American wins. And when someone else wins, I enjoy hearing the national anthems of their countries. But if American athletes are going to debase themselves and alienate millions of viewers with their liberal political views (because it's ALWAYS the liberal views that are allowed, never the conservative ones), I will skip over the ceremony of any event where an American wins. And if they start doing this stuff during the actual competitions, I'll stop watching, period.

If they wore Black Lives Matter labels, the insane dems would approve, and the news media would swoon. If they wore the blue line, those same people would all go insane with rage.

Olympics and professional sports for that matter should be devoid of politics, but sadly it’s become a platform that allows individuals to broadcast their political views to the world. This undermines the nature of the sport as it shifts the focus towards ideology and leads to a fracturing in opinion directed towards the contestants. Rather than focus on athletic merit, the arguments move towards whether the views expressed by the person are agreeable or not. I say this as a person who is quite sympathetic towards a number of causes. They have no place in an professional sporting environment, unless their goal is to directly address an injustice in said sport.
I used to sort of follow the olympics even as tedious and boring as they can be. I am not much of a flag waver either. I will turn the channel and avoid it now and hope every athlete that kneels gets slaughtered by their opponents. Are they going to tolerate anti-Chinese signs and hats etc.?
The games are somewhat like awards and Grammies not relevant for 15 years.
