What is even more insulting is black politicians doubling down saying my own people are too fill in the blank to get an ID. What an inspiration message
Not everyone lives in Section 8 housing or gets social benefits. Why do you assume they do? And that everyone both smokes and drinks alcohol? So many assumptions.
There are people who participate in none of these that will be disenfranchised by the GOP lead assault on voting rights. Requiring ID isn’t the only way the GOP is attempting to deny access.
Not enough that requires to allow access to vote illegally and as in everything, if one wants to bad enough, they will find a way. Instead of advocating for no Id, maybe provide a transportation for poor people, not just to the dmv, but to doctors and stores. That would be a much better solution.
Just because we're people of color doesn't mean we're stupid. Also, most people of color live in the inner city with plenty of access to buses, taxis, trains, subways, uber, etc.
What's your next excuse? We're too stupid to use an app? Guess we won't be getting the COVID vaccine since we can't get to the local CVS...
I was thinking of older white women, 70-90 years old. I know a few in small town Ca. They use the bus provided by the state of Nv and/or Ca. to get to the grocery store, the drs. office and the senior center to play bingo.
And no, Uber would scare them, riding with strangers, even if they could afford it. They live on around $1000 a month. That's housing, food, medigap insurance and all the rest of what they need. One did ride a 3 wheeler bicycle to the grocery store until she was 90. There was a trail from her house to the store.
The bus was driven by volunteers. So getting someone to take them to the county to get a state sanction ID would require some sweet talking. But doable. They are lucky to have the state supplied buses.

My church takes people to get IDs and we help them obtain supporting documentation. This is no different than any other part of our “get out the vote” efforts. The really good aspect is that helping them get what they need to vote ends up helping them in other areas of their life.

I’d say getting ID is much much more important for minority and people of color than voting in national election. Unlike voting for the President, the benefits of getting an ID are immediate and direct like opening a bank account, borrowing a loan, applying for social services, applying for good employment, going into government buildings, and just being a functional adult.
People who do not put an effort to apply for an ID even though it’s greatly benefiting them, then I don’t believe they are going to spend any effort to stand in line to vote in a national election.

Good for your church. Many places have such services, but then, many do not.
That's why I think if the effort put in by the anti ID crowd were to be directed at getting those who have a hard time obtaining an ID, the problem would be solved.
Guess it must be more fun to fight than to provide solutions.

One solution might be funding in one of the gigantic pork bills the Democrats keep ramming through. Isn’t it strange that out of trillions of dollars in pork barrel spending they cant allocate a few million or billion to ensure everyone can afford a Voter ID?
