I would have thought that this would have been relatively uncontroversial, especially in Illinois:

“If you’re removing the name of Thomas Jefferson — one oppressor — the name of Obama is another oppressor and our families do not want to see that name,” Contreras said."

Obama is an oppressor?? I guess he is because for a time he did actually care about protecting America and securing the border.

Are there that many illegal aliens or people that support illegal aliens in Illinois to sway the renaming of the school or is this a case of the typical Democrat way of ignoring the majority and pandering to the minority? The squeaking wheel gets the grease.

I thought this from the article was funny. “We feel that Barack Obama did disservice to us. He denied us, and he didn’t stop the deportations, the way he promised." I guess those "undocumented" folks learned an American lesson. Politicians LIE.

Obama did not lead in deportations. The Obama administration lied by changing the definitions to include turning back border crossings as deportations.

Obama thought that this lie would help with moderates worried about the border and take away an angle of attack from the right. However, his lie backfired as the woke and pro-open border crowd condemn him for it.

You have got to be kidding. Obama made intolerance (a big component of oppression) not just socially acceptable, but something to be admired. Thank goodness for term limits. We'd have a full blown Nazi Germany situation on our hands if that moron had stayed in office any longer.

To be clear, I agree with you that Latinos claiming Obama was an oppressor because of his immigration policies is beyond ludicrous. However, Obama was an oppressor, just not the way they're saying.

Yet Obama by EO implemented DACA and DAPA which gave a stay of deportation to million of illegal aliens most of whom were Latinos. He was not the "deporter in chief" either. He counted those turned around at the border as deportations. For those already in our country illegally he instructed Homeland Security not to deport any of them unless they were "convicted" criminals yet these ethnocentic Latinos still b*tch They think they are so special that their ethnic group should be given a pass on our immigration laws and rewarded for breaking them. It's a tribal mentality that trumps our immigration laws. Such arrogance! Because of this selfish arrogant attitude I fear for their take over via illegal immigration and their anchor babies. Latinos also hold the highest quotas for legal immigration into our country. The Democrats are going to wish they hadn't pandered to them and secured our southern border as they will throw them under the bus once they have reached critical mass.

People need to stop pretending that the "undocumented" community is an oppressed victim group. No they are foreign nationals who are living in the United States unlawfully. Nobody owes them anything. No they do not deserve the rights of citizens.

"President Obama did not follow through on his vows to help the immigrant community."

Legitimate immigrants don't have any problems. Undocumented people are not part of the immigrant community.

There was no colonial "Latino" community. No such thing as "Latinos" in the colonial era. Back then Spanish people were white men.

It would not surprise me one bit if in the not too distant future, ALL public schools and universities would be identified only by a number. For example, Benjamin Harrison High School would now be HS #3472.
