The danger of our civil liberties and freedoms disappearing are on the horizon if we don’t stand up now. I will contact my reps and voice my full objection and rejection of vaccine passports. We should all call.

It sure is being cancelled. I’m shocked and amazed (not in a good way) by so many things that have happened in the last year and with how people have behaved. It’s unbelievable.

You shouldn't be as it's been happening over time....the slow boil pot syndrome.
As a society becomes more docile the power grab becomes more obvious to some.

And our society has become pretty docile over the years.

It was a slow boil but they hit the fast forward button this last year.

It always does in a national crisis. Got to strike while the iron is hot and grab as much as you can.

Just read some of the past stimulus bills...not only did we bail out Amtrak but we gave them a bundle of new money. That is why you see articles about Amtrak expanding routes.

We also bailed out the multi-employer union pensions and extended the time they need to get their act together.

There's a heck of a lot of bailing out and extraneous spending in those stimulus bills that never made the press.

Exactly. It happens every time.

Fair enough. Let's discuss.

The first question is, "How many people would have to die, or at least potentially die, before we start to regard the threat as being so ominous and grave, that massive action is required"?

Answer: it depends greatly on who is dying, demographically, but setting that aside, I'd say maybe 10% of the population. If the likely casualties in the US alone were on the order of 30-40 million, then yes, that would rightfully command our attention.

The second question is, "How many people would have to die, or at least potentially die, before we abrogate our basic liberties, in the interest of mass-survival"?

Answer: 100% extinction. The very survival of humanity as a species, isn't worth the surrender of our principles.

Think back to 9-11 and the fear they perpetrated on Americans.
We got the "temporary for 10 years" Patriot Act which has been renewed every single year with zero debate in Congress.

"Never let a crisis go to waste"
Rahm Emanuel
I agree with your take on 9/11. There are a few in congress like Rand Paul who do debate the Patriot Act. I do blame Americans on this. No one has lost their seat in congress for because they voted for it. We do have that power.

Regarding the Vaccine Passports. If everyone who wants the vaccine gets it. Which should be the case shortly. We don't need to do anything. If what they are saying is true that with the vaccine you won't die or get really ill from covid then mission accomplished. If someone wants to go shopping, a movie or travel with being vaccinated they should have that right. Only ones at real risk are those who don't want the vaccine. And if they younger they have little to worry about.

So if there is someone out there who likes the vaccine passport idea, explain why its necessary when soon everyone who wants the vaccine has it?
