You have to just sit back and admire how far-left hysterics "think" sometimes. Or perhaps that's too strong a word.

"The city of Austin did not defund the police... apart from where they defunded them."

It's "intellects" like that who are able to say with a straight face that the way numerous Democrat-run cities were run last summer, was an improvement over previous years.

The whole premise of this thread is false ----

Portland's proposal didn't pass -- so the police weren't defunded. Austin's change in budgt came AFTER the surge in crime...and Minneapolis didn't defund the police.

New York City & LA did cut the police budget but they cut ALL of their municipal budget because of the impact of COVID on the economy.

Most municipalities had to make cuts to their municipal budget because of COVID.

This whole thread implies that these cities made HUGE cuts. They didn't. In some cases the proposed defunding never happened -- in other cities it wasn't defunding, it was a general cut in municipal budgets.

Defund the police, and let them wither away.

Maybe you can get your city budget reduced just in time for the coming post-Chauvin-trial riots this summer. Then you can really reap the rewards of not having a funded, operational police force.

No doubt those riots will be highly encouraged and presented as "mostly peaceful protests" again by our media. And the non-vaccinated "protesters" will be exempt from the rules because Covid is so woke it knows to stay away from BLM and any other leftists causes.

Jacksonville Florida --- not defunded -- crime rate soared in 2020.
Fort Worth Texas saw a 60% increase in homicides last year.

These two cities are Republican run and did not defund.

Could it be we are seeing a general rise in crime in the country.

They say defunded; but which actual PDs have had to lay off or furlough officers leaving gaps in coverage?

Well THEY --- the folks misleading folks say -- but the defunding proposals didn't pass in most cities and decreases in budget were a result of decreases in municipal budgets.

And for the record, I don't support taking money away from police budgets without real significant planning.

For example -- in LA they are introducing an online way to report minor fender benders...instead of sending officers out.

Some departments are being ****ed. In some police departments animal control is included -- some municipalities are taking that out of their police department and reallocating to other areas.

This whole article is purposely misleading.

I am okay with democrats destroying large urban areas. It essentially creates a prison without walls and warehouses all the democrats away from the normal people.

The destruction of US cities is a monument to the ineptitude and failures of liberalism. Every urban hell hole is a reminder to the rest of us to reject the insanity of liberalism, lest the same fate befall the rest of us.

This brings us back to the question we started with: Did the City of Austin “defund” the police? In short, no, it did not “defund” the police, apart from a 5 percent budget cut. Not only that, if the council reverses itself on the cadet classes, the budget cut this year might actually be less than that, because cadet salaries and training amounted to about $7 million of the total $20 million cut.

This particular is long and very specific but you get the idea......

Aggravated Assault and Robbery units have not lost any resources as a result of the City of Austin's decision to reconfigure APD's budget.

"I will say that as far as the 2020 numbers, we saw a rise in violent crime in the very early months in 2020 before the reimaging and the defunding conversations came up.

Minneapolis wasn't defunded either -

You should know to fact check Tucker....
Like I mentioned before, it is NOT solely due to defunded police. Even if some municipalities did not in fact defund the police, the fact remains they have demonized police to the extent many people feel they will not react to things such as looting and rioting. This general demonization of LE and delegitimizing of the entire country by extension as one big fundamentally racist farce, has led to the "Floyd effect," which is a general wave of crime nationwide, but especially in locales that have defunded or demonized the police force to the extent they no longer react to certain crimes for fear of reprimand for being "racist"
