Since smoking kills almost 500,000 people each year, why aren't the democrats banning smoking?

Smoking kills and causes more misery than guns do and don't forget the far reaching effects of second hand smoke where innocent people are victimized.
Fat and cigarettes are top killers that lead to cancer and shortened lives. They are also contributing factors to people catching covid at a higher rate.
BAN THEM BOTH in the name of public safety.
Why not require masks at restaurants at all times for fat people? It is tough to eat through a mask.
That's not to say COVID hasn't killed a ridiculous amount of people - it has. But dead people don't need hospitals.
By that reasoning, the solution is simple: refuse medical treatment to Covid patients. Just let them die. Then the hospitals will have plenty of space, for the cancer patients.
I think the left, based on the scientific evidence that shows that smoking causes the health problems it does, has done an excellent job at pushing smoking mostly out of the public sphere. There aren't very many places, especially in big cities, where you can still smoke in public. They've also raised the prices so high that it's an extremely expensive addiction. Just a decade ago there were places you could still get them for $3/pack. Now you'll be paying $8-10 for the cheap ones. It's become prohibitively expensive to smoke. With all of that said, I don't think it should be banned. If people want to smoke they should have that right.
Now we can't be banning Kools and Newports. That would be terrible for a lot of Democrats!
