Although Trump didn't make things better by harping on it, using that term, which was more about clapping back at Dems trying to pin it on him, nobody is stupid enough to think it came from somewhere else.
We all know it came from China. At least in terms of first being discovered and the first city, Wuhan, to go on some epic lockdown. Even if Trump never said it,..people out there would still ignorantly be showing their 'china' hatred on American Asians.
I'm sorry, I don't follow - what is the issue here?
The issue is that networks like MSNBC can call a covid variant for its place or origin or where it was first detected and suffer no blow back from the Left but they slammed Trump and called him a racist for daring to associate China with the Covid19 even though that is where it originated from.
We call this a double standard and it you have not been following along all these years the Left has shown us that if not for Double standards they would not have any standards at all.
Most forget that Trump didn't really start jamming on it as the "China Virus" until after China started spreading media stories that the US military had released it.
At that point, his political rivals piled on him being racist when it was a jab at the country of China for trying to pin it on other countries.
Then they spent almost a year now trying to pin attacks on Asians on Trump supporters and white people while reality has greatly differed.

The double standard of politicized claims of racism.
