I's an illegal occupation. It goes against the 1991 Belavezha Accords that established the Commonwealth of Independent States, the 1975 Helsinki Accords, the 1994 Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances and the 1997 Treaty on friendship, cooperation and partnership between the Russian Federation and Ukraine as well as being deemed illegal by international law.
If people of Michigan (for instance) voted to be part of Canada and the Canadian military rolled in and occupied Michigan, you'd be pretty miffed, right? There are ways to support efforts of self-determination that don't break international law.
No, it is more like if the US gifted part of Pennsylvania to NY, and then gave NJ NYC. The US broke apart and all fifty states are now independent countries, now the people that were in the part of PA that the US gov gave to NY want to be back with PA, and the people in NYC want to go back to being part of NY.

Ukraine has a long turbulent history, however it's brief history controlled by the Soviets was nothing like gifting Pennsylvania to NY.
As for Crimea it has always been a strategic location, providing easy access to the Eastern Mediterranean, Balkans and Middle East., with the Dnieper River also a major strategic route that crosses the European continent from north to south and ultimately links the Black Sea with the Baltic Sea.
Whilst the Black Sea serves as an economic thoroughfare connecting the Caucasus region and the Caspian Sea to central and Eastern Europe, and has been strategic importance since the historical trade route from the Varangians to the Greeks.
Possession of the southern coast of Crimea was sought after by most empires of the greater region since antiquity including the Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, Russian, British and French, Nazi German and Soviet.
Putin would like to exert further influence in the region and on Erdoğan's Turkey to try and ensure that Western access to the Black Sea is limited and that Russia has a strategic military advantage in relation to the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East.
As for Putin, he is now trying to blame Britain's MI6, with Russian state TV now claiming Ukraine would be wiped out "in two days" and quoting “expert” Sergey Kurginyan as saying British intelligence “has become a dominant force” in Ukraine.
This is a potentially dangerous and worrying situation, which should not be made light of.
Putin warned the US to keep our ships out of the black sea "for their own good." Apparently, he and Gramps Biden spoke on the phone today and Gramps gave him a, "You better stay out of Ukraine, or else" comment. Basically confirming to Putin that Gramps won't do anything that will have any significance to Russia. Not that I'm saying we should, but I'm sure Putin has zero fear of consequences from Gramps.
We are literally obligated to jump in, when NATO countries are in danger.
Sorry you thought being president was only about opening borders, breaking promises to your voters, stimulus checks, breaking promises with the Taliban, war on women's sports, ignoring inner city violence, window dressing gun laws, untrained violent German shepherds, and botching vaccines.
There is no solving the Russia problem long term but there is also no need to let them get too comfortable. This is how you maintain world power status; you get into everyone's business. Anyone who isn't comfortable with this default stance as an American foreign policy should move into a country that isn't a world power.

You conveniently omit a few facts about this debacle. The most important one being the US violated said agreement as far back as 2004. If not before.
The Crimea has always been in a bad situation too. Ukraine never invested in it because its custody has in fact been in question since Kruschevs time. It looks to me that Russia has settled the issue.
Ukraine is a basket case due to its corrupt government. The best thing that could happen is for Russia to invade and send all the scum ruining the country to your neighborhood.

Lol, Ukraine is not part of NATO. You cannot even comprehend your own reference.
