So, we're comparing ourselves with Jamaica? A poor, corrupt country?
Canada, Australia, and most of Europe all have strict gun laws, too. And their gun violence rates are small fractions of ours. Seems more logical that those are the countries we should measure ourselves against.
The question is not their gun violence but what is their violence with everything.
Chances are you won't be killing masses of people at one time with knives or cars. Homemade bombs perhaps. Guns do the worst damage to the most people.
Trivia question for you: do you know when the worst American school massacre occurred, and what the device(s) were that were used? Hint: it was before the Great Depression.

Unfortunately, we have many in our society that lean towards violence. That is our issue.
These firearms have been available to us all, with less restrictions for 70 plus years, and now they are the problem ? Teens used to take their firearms to school, used to drive around with them in racks in the back window of their trucks, and now guns are the problem ?
People need to get their heads out of the sand and start focusing on the root causes of this violence, and stop blaming inanimate objects.
Bingo ! It takes a cultural shift to move from "Thugism" to a polite society. Since thugs wont lay down their arms perhaps its time to arm the teachers and staff. Let those who choose to carry a sidearm do so. Tennessee just passed Constitutional carry and permitting firearms in our schools is the next step.
Banning firearms only produces disarmed victim zones. Its time to end the thuggery and fight back.
Yeah the causes of gun violence and violence in general go way beyond the gun laws themselves and it's usually a red herring. There are a lot of countries in Europe with even more permissive gun laws and higher net gun ownership than USA overall. Switzerland, basically every one owns a gun. Same with Czechia. Even in the Nordic countries and Scandinavia even though some think they're very liberal, in reality they're very conservative on constitutional freedoms, and there's high gun ownership and well preserved gun rights. Same with a lot of other countries in Europe. And yet they have much lower crime rates than the United States, and that includes compared to US Blue States and Blue cities with much stricter gun laws. The gun laws aren't the cause of the high level of violence in America or US violent crime rates in any category, and gun control isn't the answer.
Look at the last site. Source: UN Office on Drugs and Crime's International Homicide Statistics database.
The first three addressed gun violence, not how other violence was done. Further, the last one addresses death but not the injured of violence such as from rape. It is very easy to achieve one's point when one nit picks, like President Clinton did, what the definition is.
Finally, for those who might say, "Well, use mace!". Why should I be nice to someone who is trying to ruin my life? Why should I leave them out of action only for a moment when all they will learn from the lesson is how to get their next victim? I may not want to kill them, far too much paperwork, but I want for them not only to leave me alone but know, attacking others IS A VERY BAD IDEA.
