A lot of the African wealth is coming from Chinese investment in their countries. That's why many of the buildings look so recent - they probably used the same designs and architects (labor would be mostly local though w/the exception of supervisors and managers). The West is criticizing China for being in bed with corrupt African leaders. But realistically China is just doing what the West has been doing for centuries but w/o the slavery and now moral proselatyzing about democracy.

The African leaders know their countries top attractions are natural resources. And Chinese factories need them.

Why bother with selling materials to a US or European company when they already willingly relocated all their manufacturing to China? Why not just cut out the middleman and go directly to the source in Asia or Africa is both trade partners' way of thinking.

You take scenes from small bad sections of US Cities and compare them to scenes of the new revitalized sections of African Cities and expect not sot see a difference...smh.

Guarentee you won't see videos of the shantee towns around those African cities.

Also, maybe if Americans hadn't abandoned the inner cities in the 50s and 60s because the colored folks were moving in, some of our inner cities wouldn't look so terrible...
Of course you also fail to show the increasing development going on in and near the downtowns of most major American Cities as the younger generations and empy nesters are returning to the center city.

Good lord, I am not arguing on the side of Democrat or Republican ideals or cities with the majority of either, but there are run down parts in both. And please, these carefully selected pictures and videos of the nicest, most modern areas of African cities compared to carefully selected images of homeless camps or abandoned buildings in the US? Really?

All it takes is a couple of minutes to see what the rest of those African cities look like- once you get away from the modern parts.... and same goes for the American cities. There is absolutely no comparison.

My Dad has on occasion gone to Africa on business, to some of these larger cities that are said to be so clean and modern. Sure in the international trade and tourist districts they look nice- but pretty much everywhere else you know you are in Africa- you know you are in developing countries.... things you would never fathom seeing back here in the States.

The more fair comparison is that you can find a 4 square block area in one of these African cities that looks better than some 4 square block areas in US cities.... I would give you that, where the worst 4 square block areas you can find in some of these cities can look really bad. But expand beyond that- in the US cities, the majority outside of those small pockets look great and modern- but in those African cities the majority will still look very rough and "3rd world".

Some people say it is "foreign investment"...

Others say it is modern-day colonialism...

Often I have to wonder if there is really a difference...

Nobody besides a psychopath would even consider taking on that job. It would be like asking someone to be mayor of hell. A no-win situation. So what you get applying for the job are psychopath megalomaniacs. And the result... well, you can see the result: hell on earth.

The left is like a pair of parents who don't discipline their child. The outcome is predictable.

Another pathetic thread by the OP.

The OP goes to Youtube and finds some videos showing the nicest parts of some African cities he can find. Fortunately, we have Google street view, which, showing every street (or at least, most streets), is completely unbiased. You can see any part of the city you wish.

Gaborone, Botswana is indeed one of the more developed African cities ... but all that means is that typical residential streets look like this:
https://www.google.com/maps/@-24.626...7i13312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@-24.671...7i13312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@-24.649...7i13312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@-24.624...7i13312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@-24.630...7i13312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@-24.683...7i13312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@-24.669...7i13312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@-24.659...7i13312!8i6656

And so on. I absolutely guarantee you if the OP tried living in Gaborone for a month, he would be so eager to hightail it out of there he would see Philadelphia and Denver as heaven compared to those places.

Here's some typical residential streets in Accra, Ghana:
https://www.google.com/maps/@5.58309...7i13312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@5.59928...7i13312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@5.60477...7i13312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@5.63274...7i13312!8i6656 - that's the nicest one
https://www.google.com/maps/@5.53152...7i13312!8i6656
https://www.google.com/maps/@5.55928...7i13312!8i6656

BTW, Mauritius isn't really Africa, it's an island in the Indian Ocean. I suppose that's a borderline call, though.

Fifty or sixty years ago, what did Gaborone and Kigali and Accra look like? And what did Los Angeles and Philadelphia and Detroit look like? The former looked a whole lot worse, and the latter looked a whole lot better. It is obvious to me that parts of Africa are rising, and parts of America are declining.

Anecdotal, I know, but my wife just returned from Lib controlled Austin Texas downtown, & she said it was full of homeless people carrying Machete's! She even saw a national news show that captured it on video, and they were outside City Hall threatening police.

Neighbors just arrived in Brooklyn, another Lib city, & they said the streets have garbage piled several feet high. Is there a garbage union strike there, or is that the new normal?

Libs might be able to defend a small portion of this junk, but overall the Lib policies are crushing Urban Americans with their unique form of systemic racism.

Liberal policies = destruction
