Dan Carlin has podcasts called "Hardcore History".
They're incredibly good, highly rated.
He has an entire series called "Wrath of the Khans" and touches on a very similar point about how eventually in history some start to point to *positives* since all the people and emotional ties to the attrocities have faded.
They note that some historians reference how GK cleared out some of the establishment "dead wood" a different argument than carbon footprint lol but oh well.
