I've read the arguments against the vaccine. I have a friend who is constantly sending me anti-vax links. OTOH, I've also read the arguments for the vaccine. By doing so, I've come to my own conclusions as to what I'm going to do about it.

I checked with my doctor.

I figure if I trust her to guide me through health decisions in non-pandemic times, I should trust her medical judgement.

I also happen to know a few folks who are doctors, and folks who have doctorates in various medical areas....so I used that info.

I ignored non-medical arguments for or against.

AND while I feel confident with the vaccine, I do not support government mandates. Not because of any 'freedom' thing because if I was inclined to fight against the govt. I'd me fighting all day long as various government agencies mandate my lifestyle.

I support the government, community organizations talking about why we should get the vaccine and then letting folks continue their search for more info. I believe the govt. mandates only create a defensive reaction to any policy that might be effective, even slightly, in slowing the spread.

They don't lack critical thinking skills. Give them a bunch of information they agree with and they can pick it apart critically and create arguments for it.

They lack the ability to assess UNBIASED and/or BALANCED information. From multiple sources.

It's a social feedback loop. They are always right because they only use sources that agree with their mindset, even if the facts don't.

We need unbiased thinkers. People who can assess information from multiple sources and weed out what's accurate. Very few liberal thinkers even attempt this. They simple go along with what they are told.

I remember in HS they taught us to 'know the opponents' argument. Today, that sentiment is replaced with insults and ad hominem, not unbiased overall research.

Extremists on both sides of the political fence lack critical thinking skills. At the moment, it seems like more left leaning folks are bat-crap insane, but that hasn't always been then case. Interestingly (and ironically), its actually the right that seems to be incapable of applying critical thinking skills to the Covid situation. All this nonsense about rights, government over reach, and some fantastic world-wide conspiracy to suppress the peasants via vax/mask mandates is next-level tin-foil hat nonsense, nearly rivaling "wokeness" on the stupidity scale.
