The US army is leaving Afghanistan.
Did the war make Afghans richer? No, they are extremely poor.
Each American family paid $20,000 for the war. All money went to gun sellers.
China will move in, sell cheap merchandise, build roads, and open factories as it does in Africa.
Actually I read where we could have given every Afghan citizen $20,000 for what we spent.
No one is going to be well received, it has been a tribal wasteland for hundreds of years and while we made some improvements not much has changed.
China and Russia were happy Biden won because they knew he wasn't a strong leader that they could step all over. They didn't want Trump to be elected because he stood up to them and issued sanctions. All the stimulus $$$ are borrowed and puts the US in debt for generations to come. It's obvious he is not a military leader (ex. pulling out of Afghanistan) against advice of the military generals. I'm glad I am old because I can't learn the Chinese language at this age.
They may not fear us but I doubt they want to engage our military.
you're right, they don't.
we're the ones with 800 military bases around the world surrounding them. to them, it looks like we want to engage militarily.
2016 $767.6
2017 $818.9
2018 $890.8
2019 $904.3
2020 $935.8
2021 $933.8

As there are 143 million taxpayers in the USA, each pays $14,000 annually for the army.
Trump didn't start any new war, that's why he didn't get the Nobel Peace Prize.
Increased spending is meaningless unless it is spent wisely and we are weaker even though we spend more than China and Russia combined. A large part of the increase is in the Overseas Contingency Operations (OCO) budget. Originally started as a way to fund the "unexpected" costs of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, OCO has become a “slush fund” for DoD to avoid budget caps put in place by the Budget Control Act.
There is zero emphasis on getting more bang for the buck and the biggest single increase was for nuclear weapons. All Trump had to do was pull out the late Senator Coburn's (R) "The Department of Everything" to see where to start. The DoD operates everything from golf courses, to breweries to grocery stores.
As the navy deteriorates, we have more admirals than ships - when reserve admirals are included - and even though the navy is 1/9th the size it was in WW2, we have more admirals now than then. The army has more four star generals now than we had in WW2 (when the air force was part of the army). Under Trump, our military footprint in Africa has expanded to 29 bases.
Of course, BRAC is over despite its success. All of the services have testified in Congress that they have on average 20% too much infrastructure, from bases which aren't needed to docks which can't be used. Do we really need a land locked naval base in the middle of Indiana?
For a president railing against government waste it continued under Trump. It requires attention to detail, knowledge, not watching TV, twittering away, whining and being more concerned about the names of bases than the safety of our sailors and soldiers.
They may not fear us but I doubt they want to engage our military.
Russia shows up in Syria after the US bombed some "bad guy" camp and the US went home.
Russia shows up in Ukraine after the US sends warships to the Black Sea and the US went home.
Because they know how weak this administration is.
They know how weak our military has become...social engineering.
