BTW Supreme Court picks are NOT lifetime appointments. There IS the option to impeach them. And it's a very respectable way about getting rid of supreme court picks that are truly bad choices or have become bad.

I'd rather there be term limits like 15 or 18 years than age-based criteria. As for the wisdom of life time appointments, it is very rare in state courts so apparently it was not thought well of by them regardless of what the "founders" did. Remember too, that all federal judges serve for life terms if they desire. It is not just a SC issue.

But it is difficult to do so. Just like any group they are protected and they are covered up for. They would literally have to shoot the president at the state of the union to get impeached. Having renewable terms allows for a merit selection committee where anyone can come forward with their evidence (or just e-mail it in) and the committee had to deal with it.

Yes, impeachment would remove a justice. Exactly one justice has been impeached in the history of the Supreme Court, Samuel Chase in 1805, and he was acquitted by the Senate (see https://www.supremecourt.gov/about/faq_general.aspx). The term "lifetime" isn't meant to mean despite all faults, it means that someone can't be removed for political, age, term limit reasons, etc.

But when is the last time you seen a Federal judge impeached?

It rarely happens. Something like just 15 in 200+ years? One or the other party will almost always protect them.

Those who think Biden is too old for president should agree that Supreme Court justices should have limits and not be lifetime.

But everyone Biden's age is not as feeble minded as he is. Of course, that didn't stop the Dems from electing him, but that's another matter.

Based on that data, if I were Biden I'd give up any effort trying to add seats and focus an effort on some kind of reform around term limits.
But would he be able to implement term or age limits on current Justices?

He needs quick results on manipulating the judiciary.

So we can go from 9-0 extremes to another in the SCOTUS? Perhaps the current situation is not correct but seriously people, imagine swinging betweeen 9 Sotomoyers or Thomas's.
