Why would anyone want to do that in the New United Socialists of America? Heck, we can't even get educated young teachers to go back to school and do their jobs. Heck my nieces and nephews are still all sitting on their butts at home "online learning" or whatever the crap is called these days. All low risk people. Young teachers (Who are probably already vaccinated) and kids that this COVID doesn't even affect hardly

That isn't what it means at all. It doesn't matter what you pay when nobody is applying.

The sign in the OP might as well say "Our business model depends on starvation wages, and there re currently few takers for those", but...
They've widely introduced ordering kiosks throughout Europe and in many places like Denmark they have unions to contend with so let's have an honest discussion shall we?

Ordering kiosks increase from 20% in 2017 to 75% in 2019.

I agree that higher wages don't automatically translate into automation, depends upon what kind of automation and so for the putting stuff on tray and burger flipping jobs are safe....but the cashier jobs have been greatly diminished.

Some things are easier to automate than others.

Also, we have 6+ million illegal laborers keeping the price of unskilled labor way down either directly or via the economic concept of sustitution.

Don't think that has anything to do with why people aren't applying even though unemployment is down to 6%?

It's a pretty crappy job with spotty hours intentionally kept below full time regulations. On top of that it's public facing in a pandemic with lots of people with short tempers out there. Stories abound of people losing their minds in drive-thru lines. While someone making a tiktok to try to be funny could be recording you and setting up some absurd situation that if you don't react like a seasoned public relations expert could get you fired and internet famous. Should come with some hazard pay frankly.

Pay enough and people will apply. There's a name for that mechanism.

Bingo...and when the free stuff runs out and those jobs become automated, they’ll be complaining there aren’t any jobs for them.

it's costs money doing that.
money doesn't grow on trees.
people that come from poverty have to start somewhere.
and along the way, setbacks happen.
You ever had to choose between saving for school and getting your car fixed? (one example).

the "just make more money and just have a skilled trade/education out of the womb" arguments are never thought out.

Work 2 jobs.

The possibilities are there if someone wants to do what they can to better themselves. Muh excuses by the weak and entitled who choose to wait around for free stuff is the easy way out.
