Sure why not give them what they want? Have you seen the movie "The Purge".

Imagine if one day the entire Police department of a major city calls in sick? Have you seen the movie "A day without a Mexican" ? Who would really blame the Police if they stopped going to work given the current climate where they have been turned into the enemy of the People.

If we really are to try "A day without a cop" then we also have to allow the good people to use any means necessary to protect their lives and property from the criminals without fear of prosecution. The next day would not be pretty when the trucks come around to pick up the bodies.

They are a deterrent to crime.

Have you not noticed the increase in crime as of late in certain areas where policing has decreased? Between a lack of police and Soros funded DAs releasing criminals back out into the public - crime is up.

There are plenty of poor people that are unable to defend themselves. At least with a normal functioning police force, there is some fear of consequence for criminal behavior.

Is this sarcasm ? You can't really believe this.

The police don't defend people from assaults. So if someone is unable to defend themselves, they would have been unable to do so with or without the police. The police are not a security force. That's what people don't get. And they're also not a deterrent. I've known open air drug markets with tons of crime be committed literally around the corner from the police headquarters in some cities. They're only a "deterrent" when someone needs to be re-elected and need to run on a "tough on crime" ticket.

I propose it be done for a week, not just one day.

You see. Alot of these woke activist have good intentions. But at times good intentions can and will lead into bad ideas. It is great for affluent people to abolish police. They have security. The common black man and black woman don't have such luxury. And can be harmed in many ways. Defunding the police is a bad idea. If society wants to defund the police. It is time to dumb down and make sociology degrees, psychology degrees, masters and PhD in such fields as affordable or free. Paid by tax payers dollars to replace the police.

Rashida Tlaib was also championing the BREATHE Act last year, which includes these gems:

END MANDATORY MINIMUMS.—
○ Abolish all mandatory minimum sentencing laws.
● END “THREE STRIKES” LAW.—
○ Abolish the “three strikes” (18 U.S.C. §3559(c)).
● AGE OF CRIMINAL LIABILITY.—
○ Raise the age to 24 years old to be tried as an adult.
○ Categorically end the practice of incarcerating individuals under 24

I think the ultimate goal is to treat criminals with kid gloves. Get the statistics of repeat offenders and incarcerated individuals under 24 to go down, and you've fixed the problem... I guess.

Right because the root of all our problems is the police and not the underlying criminal activity.

Now I don't agree that many of these people killed by cops should be dead but most if not all "victims" were involved in some pretty shady activities. This is something that nobody wants to discuss.

The Boston, Massachusetts police strike of September 9, 1919, The Boston police department goes on strike - HISTORY, provides further guidance and predictive value. See New York Times article (link) about strike, excerpts below:

Gangs of rowdies, gangs of thieves, were at work.
