As I predicted, the jury found Chauvin guilty on all counts.
Unlike many out there including forum members here, I tried to keep an open mind. The prosecution clearly made their case much more convincingly than the lackluster defense team (remember, this case was never about ‘premeditated murder’).
It seems that many here that will complain about the justice system being flawed and how Chauvin was given a raw deal, are doing so simply because they feel George Floyd deserved to die and look for any evidence that would support that Floyd died on his own. They didn’t really look at the evidence and trial proceedings with an open mind, automatically dismissing anything the prosecution presented, and grasping onto everything the defense did. And it came to the point that the Chauvin supporters were wanting a mistrial based on inflammatory statements from people like Maxine Waters. And no doubt these same people will also automatically assume that the jurors made this decision from either a biased “anti-Chauvin” viewpoint, or that it was made under duress or fear of possible repercussions from NOT finding Chauvin guilty of any charges.
Sure, Floyd wasn’t a very good human being, but that’s not what was on trial here. And I generally side with police in situations involving use of police force. But If I felt that there was reasonable doubt that Chauvin’s actions caused Floyd to die, then I would have no qualms about saying so. But based on the better case the prosecution presented, along with the totality of videos and Chauvin’s own actions that date (which were widely criticized by a multitude of veteran law enforcement officers and experts), the jury decision was the correct one in my opinion.
Certainly there will be appeals, so let the justice system run its course (while the country riots and loots)
