The constitutional convention was clear about not having a capital city under control of any state.
I realize the constitution means sewage to many today.
Why not just return DC to Maryland. Half of DC was returned to Virginia a long time ago. Well the point is 2 more senators.
Just reduce the District of Columbia to the area encompassed by the White House, the Capitol, and the Supreme Court building.
Buy all private property in that area and make the DC entirely Federal property.
The Federal buildings outside that area, well, we have Federal buildings throughout the United States. There is no issue with the Pentagon being outside the DC.
Give the rest of it to Maryland.
Oh, the 2 more Senators. Wait is this all about a pure political power grab??

Of course it is. Everything the Democrats do is a political power grab. They don’t care about the United States or it’s citizens. Whatever it takes to get as much power and money as they can for themselves and screw everyone else.

Why deny to DC what the state of Wyoming has had for over 100 years?
Also, the Australian Capital Territory also has senators https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ital_Territory
Ottawa isn't even in its own district.
The Federal District of Mexico (their equivalent of DC) has deputies (congressional representatives).
Elections have consequences.......and I thought Biden was a moderate
Biden admin announces ‘strong support’ for making D.C. the 51st state
President Joe Biden’s administration announced Tuesday that it “strongly supports” making Washington, D.C. the 51st state, calling on Congress to “provide for a swift and orderly transition to statehood” for the nation’s capital.
What's the problem with making DC a state? Practically speaking DC is its own entity today anyway.
It's unconstitutional for one, as the seat of federal government was designed to be outside of state control. Additionally, it's tiny, it's largely poor, and it'd be a city-state with very limited resources.... it was originally part of Maryland anyways and there is no logical reason why the residential districts of the city cannot simply be ceded back to its original territory.
And if the Democrats want to play the Balkanization game, then I'd imagine there are no limits to the number of rural Republican majority districts that would be lining up to push for separatism and statehood in lieu of a gimmick like this.
Indeed they do, which is why DC should be given voting representation in the House of Representatives, commensurate with their population. Doesn't mean that DC should be made a state.
I agree.
The District of Columbia is a Federal district with one special purpose- the location of our national government.
It's actually more like a county than a city, as its territory once contained 3 different cities with separation between them; Georgetown, Washington, and Alexandria. Of them Washington was to be our Capitol city.
I see no reason why it must be a state to have proper representation in the Capitol for its citizens. As a special reserve, it's the only one like it and it is unique.
It has every governmental institution it needs in place and has citizens who have always lived there. In all respects it's like any state's capital city except for its federal reserve status.
The citizens are Americans, and they deserve full representation.
Does it require a star on the flag to have representation? I have no answer to that. D.C. was created from land from 2 states that was ceded to the federal government, and what does a star represent on our flag?
Does a star represent a state's boundaries- it's spot on our national map- or does it represent the people who live in the state?
The first says D.C. would need to be an additional star on the flag. The second does not.
All this is further complicated by something else: D.C. is our Capitol city by tradition, but not by fixed law.
Theoretically, the federal government could create another parcel of reserved land anywhere in the U.S. for the purpose of being our Capitol, and could abandon D.C. and move our central government there.
New Washington could even be a man-made island just offshore or in the backwater of the Chesapeake Bay.
This is just one part of the radical democrats plan to create a one party dictatorship.
Nope, that's still assuming Rs remain unwilling to moderate their unpopular positions at all to attract a bigger tent. They always have that option. The dictatorship stuff was your last guy, he's gone now. Ds are standing up for democracy when Rs won't.
