Many Union soldiers did die to end slavery. There were as many motives for the Civil War as men who fought in it. Each had their own motives.
Certainly, ending slavery was a big motivating factor. Uncle Tom's Cabin was a bestseller. An anti-slavery novel that historians credit with helping prevent Britain from intervening on the side of the South.
The British elite was sympathetic to the Confederacy. They relied on the South for cotton, and they shared similar aristocratic attitudes. But Uncle Tom's Cabin sold well among the populace, increasing abolitionist and anti-Confederate sympathies. It's one reason Britain refrained from offering military support to the South.
Uncle Tom's Cabin also inspired many Northern abolitionists.
Then there's the Battle Hymn of the Republic, which reflected the sentiments of many Union soldiers and sympathizers at the time. Note its refrain:
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me.
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
While God is marching on.

remember that time black people took responsibility for their own lives and communities and stopped blaming whites. And black people became prosperous and the result was:

Everyone including black people need to stop blaming someone and get off the butt and work and work until you succeed. Looking to the government for handouts and blaming others is and admission you are a failure.
These types of people NEVER talk about all the blacks who HAVE gotten out of the "ghettos"' and have become "normal" citizens.
The ones who have and became republicans are trashed.
Just look at people like Dr Ben Carson, a world wide recognized brain surgeon, and his brother.
Equality. That’s what they owe them... and everyone else.
And they have it in spades. Actually more than equality — blacks are given more attention, funding, and programs for help than any other race in this country.
We’ve had a black President, SOS, SOD, Attorney General, black head of Republican Party, black owned cable TV stations, thousands of black millionaires, etc etc etc —and the richest women in this country is a billionare black — Oprah.

And the draft act did...what? Yep started riots that lasted for a good spell. Very hyper violent riots and the abolishinists narrative that the war was being fought to free the slaves had New Yorkers so boiling angry that Blacks were run down, lynched, set on fire, beaten to death, mutilated and left strung up on street lamp poles, oh yeah Northerners were ALL about freeing slaves. The Army of the Potomac broke into riots when they were told they were fighting to free Southern slaves. They weren't happy with that notion. I believe that was the same year as the NYC draft riots, 1863 as I recall.
And contrary to what is and has been taught to our kids in school for a long time now Confederate soldiers were not fighting to keep slaves. Damn few men in the Confederate military were slave owners. High and middle rank officers were but rank and file infantrymen. cavalry troopers and sailors didn't even own slaves. If they were farmers before the war they worked their own fields and paid for labor to help. With wages. Not to buy slaves.
Slaves were expensive between 5-20 thousand dollars in todays money. Those that cost less were likely to be in poor health and not expected to last long doing physical labor. And it was the same in the North. Rank and file Union soldiers didn't care a whit about slaves. And most of their officers didn't either as an issue to be in military service for. Many of the latter were slave owners themselves, and they didn't free their slaves after the Emancipation proclamation. That order only freed slave in "states in rebellion." It was actually what lit the initial fuse in NYC that led to the draft riots. The draft order was the primary charge,and it went BOOM.
Resistance to reconstruction got pretty heated after the war. In it's early days the KKK was actually not just a hate group that targeted Blacks. It certainly became that as time went on but at first they were attacking Union occupation troops. And a LOT of those troops were Black soldiers. That was Sherman and Sheridans brainchild move and they did it to rub Southerners noses in their defeat. So the KKK became pretty much completely an anti Black organization and the infamous "night rides" began. And the narrative that the war was fought to free the slaves was written into the history books as the primary motivator. Today that is ALL that is spoken of if the Civil War even gets touched on in public school classrooms that is all that's said and the ...moving right along we jump to the 1960s and the civil rights movement and ignore the 100 years in between.
"History" curriculum especially in public schools is a very bad joke. In 1992 I did a presentation to a class of 6th graders. I asked them if any of them knew who Adolf Hitler was. Not a single hand was raised. I was and still am appalled by that and it's worse now. Graduating high school student mostly don't even know WW2 happened. But most of them can tell you that the Civil War was fought to free the slaves.
During the Civil War, approximately 6% of the entire white male population gave their lives and died for freedom and ending slavery. The debt has been paid, and black people owe white people gratitude for that.

The blacks participated as well. The debt has certainly never been paid to them monetarily nor Mentally.
The mentality proves evident with the simple lack of regard toward their community coupled with lack of accountability within ours.
Look, I would say white racism is a good application for the 90/10 rule. Meaning, 10% of white people are responsible for about 90% of the anger towards whites. It's not all white people, only the ones who get up on TV and openly hate blacks, Jews (for some reason they always bring in the Jews), immigrants, Hispanics, Asians, pretty much anyone who isn’t white. White people honestly don't deserve what's happening to them. Many blacks and other minorities are brain washed by the Democratic party.
There have been many white people who have given their lives for voting rights, equal rights and for saving others. Many have lost fortunes, lost people, their standing in their communities and family they considered friends.
Stop blaming the white people and or racism for every problem in the society.

What is happening to white people? Absolutely nothing. No white person life has become worse as a result of any of this. People protest cops, and white people choose to take offense to that. That's white people getting themselves upset. But I don't know of any coordinated attack to persecute white people. And you'll never see it in this country.
