Well, in an ideal world, yes. Even in the SF Bay Area, where Asian Americans have been here for over 150 years, that doesn't keep us from being perceived as "perpetual foreigners" or told to "go back to your country".

Or be asked, "Where are you REALLY from?"

I am surprised to spot so many asian americans lurking around on CD forum...are you all real or many just pretending to be...?? I was expecting a handful, but those who claimed to be AA way exceeded my expection.

Asia forum is fairly active if that is any indication.

I don't post there since I don't really have much to offer.... I may be Asian descent but I'm American born (1st gen) and have very little ties to my ancestral home. I think the last time I was visiting there with my parents was back in 94.

I don't even speak the language (even though I can understand it).... Sometimes, I meet others from my ancestral home and they immediately assume I speak the language; As a joke I usually respond in my broken Russian. lol.

Outside of my American nationality, I’m of Caribbean descent first and foremost. My African and South Asian ancestors were brought there. If I identify as a hyphenated-American, it’s by my Caribbean country of descent.
