It is not just a fracture. It is a seismic rift.

If Cheney and people who think like her are not ejected from the party leadership, the Republican party is finished, and good riddance.

The friction that is observed in the article in the OP is a demonstration that most of the caucus realizes this is the case.

If Cheney gets a strong Vice President candidate to balance the ticket, she could be the next President.

Well here is a good read that appropriate in this thread

What can Never Trump learn from the nineteenth century’s Free Soilers?
The pre-Civil War era contains plenty of lessons for contemporary politics

What we are witnessing in the GOP is eerily reminiscent of the divide with the Whigs and Jacksonian Democrats in the late 19th Century.

As a moderate I find myself cheering the current "rabble rousers" of both parties that are ironically in the middle and have the backbone to stand up to their own parties. Let's face it, that takes more strength than standing up to the other party. So Joe Manchin and Liz Cheney and others like them - they are the ones who are truly up there showing others in their parties that there are still folks that will stand on principle.

The future of the party is Romney, Cheney and McConnell clones that know how to use racism and fear of “socialism” to get votes. That’s been the Republican Party ever since Reagan in 1980.

Big Business always gets what it wants. And the upper echelons of Big Business know there are plenty of “useful idiots” to vote for the puppets they nominate.

The republican party has lost their way when they worship one man and call true conservatives rinos and what them voted out. I find it very bizarre and disturbing.

So do non-Trump Rs. But Trump Rs still aren’t getting that Trump now drawing opposition from non-Trump Rs, independents, and Democrats, makes him a nonviable candidate. His political career is over.

Yes Trump's political career is over but he keeps dangling the carrot that he may run again which puts the party in turmoil. Many want to run but are waiting to see what Trump does. It's ridiculous. The party needs to move on from him.

The only thing these people understand is losing elections. If the GOP continues on the Nationalist populist path.....there will be many bad election cycles. All you need to do if you are a Democrat or Independent is paint your GOP opponent with the broad brush of believing in the Big Lie and their diminishing 1/6. Donald Trump is a big Christmas present to the DNC.

To the op.
It is not a fracture of the republican party.
They just want her gone, and in 2022 that may well be the case.
