After 19 years of b.s especially by the current President, the answer is NO. It was built and ran on b.s. These are the geniuses running our foreign policy and these people want to go in Iran, North Korea and Russia. No Thank You.

I can't predict precisely, no one can, but all likely outcomes seem bad. Civil war? A horribly repressive society? Regional instability? Taliban taking in money to create a haven for terrorists? It's be odd if there's a civil war - because if there are enough people to war against the Taliban, why didn't they step up in the last 20 years? They can't count on another Massoud appearing.

It's a pity that Biden will be blamed for whatever disaster ensues--I'm guessing that the Taliban will again create a hell there, especially for women. But it's staggering to think, as Biden said, that we've been in there for four presidents. There's a lot of blame to go around, but the bulk of the blame should go to George W. Bush, who soon lost interest in Afghanistan, and turned to attack Iraq (which had never attacked the U.S.). I don't think anyone here would regret the death of Saddam Hussein, but GWB also accidentally created ISIS, which sprang from the remnants of Saddam's dethroned Baath party.

We improved a few things in Afghanistan--more girls went to school, for instance--but I don't think we ever fully understood their culture, and in 20 years we haven't managed to help them train a police force or army to let them stand up for themselves. We need to admit that this is another failed, lost war. But I wonder if this will come back to bite us. A real no-win situation.

This was a disaster from the start. We had a brain dead president Bush 2, his brain dead VP Cheney and the corrupt mentally deficient Rumsfield. All three got us into the mess of combined Iraq and Afghan war under the guise of WMD. All are military criminals. I don't blame Obama or Trump. I blame Biden not as a president but as a senator voting to authorize invasion.

We should have joined the coalition to just invade Afghanistan, capture Osama Bin Laden and gotten out. None of this staying there and nation building. That was a stupid mistake that has cost us $2-3T and countless soldiers dying or being severely wounded.

We should just get out and let Afghans take care of themselves. Staying thee more will come back to bite us more. Not withdrawing, with out tails tucked between our legs.

Not really. Most Americans that died in terror attacks were killed by homegrown terrorists....9/11 being the lone exception.

The war on Terror may have actually worked had Dubya not decide to attack Saddam for no reason. We split our forces over a nothing burger.

And if our Coalition Allies lent more troops. The highest was from UK, but some were as low as 300 or so. Why even bother if just send 300? Can you even defend a major base/outpost with that and still manage to project force into surrounding areas to lock it down?

We have to leave at some point. But I'd leave them with this warning. We don't care what the do to their people in their country. But if their actions, including giving shelter to external terrorists, cause the death of one American, we'll do what we should have done after 9/1, the nuclear sterilization of the entire country.
Why Afghanistan when most of the hijackers came from Saudi Arabia?

Bush 2 drug us into that country to find OBL and right off the bat took the hunt off to go back in Iraq and fight a war his father lost back 1991 when they never did finish the job. So we had 3 failed wars and trillions lost and many of our people killed and broke two countries and not one drop of oil.

Only because the United States back then was helping the Taliban to fight and defeat Russia. Why do you think Osama Bin Laden was an informant for the CIA?
