Ron DeSantis to Sign Bill Banning Social Media ‘Deplatforming,’ ‘Shadow Banning,’ ‘Censoring’

Social media companies would be unable to permanently kick people off their platforms under a tough new Florida law.

The bill, passed by the GOP-dominated state Legislature Thursday and awaiting Gov. Ron DeSantis’ signature, would make it a crime to remove state political candidates from Twitter and Facebook, and would mete out penalties of $250,000 a day for any statewide candidate who is deplatformed.

The GQP likes its state-sponsored news and violation of property rights.

No surprise there.

so transparent
It really is hilarious! Democrats always billed themselves as the champions of the working class, defender of the abused, valiant defenders of free speech, mortal enemies of filthy rich wealthy elites and foe of mega-corporations.

Now they are moral enemies of free speech, they ignore the working class, they suck up to the ultra-wealthy, and they're the champions of the mega-corporations. Just imagine an old school Democrat from the 1970's uttering the words, "Corporations shouldn't be regulate. Their powers shouldn't be curbed in any way whatsoever. They are private businesses and the government has no right limit them in any way whatsoever."

Nope, it won't.

I suspect most of the legislators who signed on to this bill, as well as DeSantis, know this full well, as it is pretty well established law.

They are fishing for a SC decision that will address the issue of whether and to what extent social media companies can make their own decisions regarding their own operations.

I doubt the SC will bite, but hope springs eternal...

Republicans are rewriting the First Amendment via legislation while wearing Mickey Ears, and this is your response? Sad.

Social media is the press nowadays. People <40 yrs old are ignoring newspapers, political magazines, tv news, radio, ect.. more & more.

Social media is constantly pushing a political agenda, and they must be kept in line.

do you understand that the left has been a targeted crowd since the 1970s by party platform

the democrats have been the party of college educated people for decades, so if most of your workforce is turned off by the republican blather it just might be best for employee cohesiveness to promote the business like wise

no they are not demonized

Total respect for Desantis here, as independents we haven't necessarily agreed with him on everything but he does believe in the idea of individual freedoms, and practices what he preaches. He's been at the fore-front on banning vaccine passports which would intrude on people's basic right to decide what goes into their bodies, and he's standing up strongly against Big Tech here and the monopolistic practices of companies like Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, Reddit and Twitter. This was probably Trump's single biggest blunder in his presidency, he had a lot of good ideas but failed to understand the threat against him and his base by Big Tech, was too pro-big business and failed to take anti-trust action. In fact he only managed to mis-read the threats and get upset over a personal slight from users of a different tool (Tiktok) which in reality posed much less of a threat against him than companies like Facebook, Apple, Google or Amazon, so he identified the wrong enemy and helped his own enemies by failing to move. Then Big Tech was able to control the narrative and suppress conservative voices, and was responsible more than anyone for bringing Trump down. Desantis gets a lot of Trump's ideas but he's smarter and understands the threat to Americans in general from Big Tech having so much control over communications and speech, and is doing what true conservatives and defenders of freedom should've done long ago. This can also be a critical early step in start up needed anti-trust action.

LOL, really!?!?!

I didn't realize you were against the FDA, the EPA, the FEC, and the hundreds of other federal and state regulatory agencies that "legislate what a private company can do."

The truth is you are ALL FOR companies getting regulated as long as the regulations line up with your political ideology.

Few pay attention to what LeClown says.

Most everyone cares about what because Trump says, especially his haters. They can’t look away.
