The GOP didn't mind Sheldon Adelson's millions. They didn't mind Rupert Murdoch's millions either. In fact, the GOP used to love corporations until corporations stopped agreeing with the GOP.
Exactly. This is about foreign individuals or governments influencing ours for their benefit-and not necessarily ours.
So far I haven't seen anything that specifically says that this is illegal. In fact it looks pretty hard to prove.
So here is the thing, how do we stop this? How do we change this dynamic so that they represent us, and not the corporations and foreign money trying to influence them. Now imagine trying to get your answer past the Republicans, Democrats, AND courts.

Liberal ............Mr. Wyss has donated hundreds of millions of dollars to the
preservation of conservation land in Western America. I give a thumbs up.
But....and this is a big but......
I find that his donations to the Democratic Party of the United States for the
Hub Project, State News Room,News Guard and much more( to influence outcomes )
is an immediate threat to our country .
Funny , but not unexpected, how a wealthy Liberal lives on a 900 acres of land in the very Red State of Wyoming.
Or are naturalized citizens second class in your book?
I'm just gonna sit here and watch how that landmine goes. Cause its not as cut and dried as you might first think, especially in wealthy families spreading out over multiple nations.
Don't particularly care unless someone cites the laws being broken - influencing elections through propaganda is the name of the game and has always been.
Look, its just gone too far. Right now? I think its one of the few things we could agree on. Our government needs to represent us.
From the article, and fairly meaningful to this topic:
Born in Switzerland and living in Wyoming, he has not disclosed publicly whether he holds citizenship or permanent residency in the United States. Foreign nationals without permanent residency are barred from donating directly to federal political candidates or political action committees, but not from giving to groups that seek to influence public policy
That said, I'd be 100% behind reform that gave a set, equal amount of money to every candidate for their campaign, and that they could not let money outside that influence their campaign efforts.
