How could the country split, anyway? Is Kansas going to be part of MAGA Land except for Wichita? Will Florida be split into the middle parts and panhandle, which vote red, and the coastal cities that vote blue? Would Georgia be part of the USA or MAGA Land? It would never work.
Right remember Limbaugh’s “I’m leaving the country if Obama is elected”?

Very few people seem to want to follow through on statements like that. Even if your guy isn’t in power right now you can still do a lot worse than living in the US.

Nobody tried to overthrow the government at the Capitol. You can complain til the cows come home that Trump's idiotic ramblings were televised and that somehow that was unfair to him, but no matter what, that is the side that literally tried to pull off a coup (and failed handily).

To find out why, we only have to look back at the deficiencies of the Articles of Confederation. In 1785 a convention was called at Mt. Vernon to discuss navigation rights between MD and VA. Imagine 50 states disputing borders. Imagine 50 states imposing tolls on each other. Each with redundant agencies. Wealthy states like CA might like it, after all, they pay out more in federal tax dollars than they get back, other states would have the opposite happen, services would decline since they would have to make up the shortfall.

In the end, its about human nature and that won't change.

There's not really a right wing equivalent because the problem people on the right have no power whatsoever because they really have no following. On the left, the socialist wing is gaining more and more control every day.

There's at least 5 openly socialist members of Congress....with socialists being the moral equivalent of Nazis.

There's just not an equivalent on the other side among those in office.

Extremist right wingers are exclusively on the fringes with almost no support whatsoever, if it was different, I'd agree with you.

When you have the leaders of one party with most of the media and all their members echoing them calling members of the other party all kinds of names like: hicks, uneducated, ignorant, deplorable, stupid, uncaring, racist, white supremacists, murderers, domestic terrorists, gun nuts, etc., etc. etc. what in the world do you expect? I mean, how can you not see the cause? Because it is obvious.

I was for splitting up until I saw a map of Cal-3 (plan to cut up CA into three), and my house is not in the part I wanted to be in. Realistically, dividing up America will not be easy to do because we are a free people. It's not like how the British could cut up British India to make a Pakistan or cut up a part of the middle east to make an Israel.

The best plan is to have more state autonomy, and for people to choose where they want to live. That's already happening. People are shuffling around the country to be with like-minded people.

In history course poli-sci the usa is technically experiencing the 'teen rebel' phase. Fighting for arguments sake. Fabricating, grandizing. Overblowing facts. And sometimes duking it out. Eventually the teen matures. Re evaluates, and slowly progresses to a rational series of decisions.
Usa needs to pull the bullies aside and administer some common sense.
This is our motherland. Currently holding on. Division is not the answer. United fairs thru the tremulous teen angst era. We'll get thru this phase too...

You're right, this country is extremely divided. We have been in the past as well, but in this age with technology and the internet it has become a whole new beast. You now have large segments of the country who believe in straight up lies and baseless conspiracies like QAnon. You have people who continue to cling to barbaric and archaic superstitions (also known as religion) and try to shove their beliefs into legislation. And, furthermore, at least in terms of politics, the two sides seemingly have very little in common anymore. It's one thing to agree to disagree and either work it out or you don't. But you can't agree to disagree when you can't even establish what true facts and reality are. That's a dangerous and slippery slope. It seems like we have less and less in common with each other, so why put ourselves through this and just amicably split as you say.

However, it also has to be noted that CD, and especially the politics board, is not representative of the country at large. By and large, despite the political differences, the overwhelming majority of people aren't actively fighting with each other in the streets. They're busy living their normal lives and engage with politiics on an active level once every few years.

I do also think the country as a whole is going through a unique growing pain. In 30-40 years, this country will be ~40 percent white and there are a lot of people who do not like that- mainly boomers and older generations. Most of them will never say anything, or voice their dislike or concern over it (at least not in a public forum), but it bothers many of them. It's evidenced on this board everyday. But as time ticks on and the older generations are no longer with us and the younger, more diverse groups become the dominant demographic in the country I think a lot of the tension will start to subside. The country now is where California was in the 80s and 90s. The state's demographics were drastically changing and the GOP (who controlled the state for most of these years) passed a lot of laws and had a lot of rhetoric trying to essentially curtail the change. But, eventually, time was just not on their side, and we all know how California is today.

So, who knows. Are we better off divorcing? It's possible for sure. Is this just a unique time in the country's history? I think that's also possible too.

Only time will tell, I suppose.
Have you ever actually asked a conservative if they actually believe QAnon? Please show me exactly which law(s) have beliefs shoved into them.

It sounds like you have only believed what Rachael Maddow and company has told you to believe, especially when it comes to your statements about race. Or maybe you're a student of Critical Race Theory. You know, the racist statement that we are all racist no matter what.
