The manager is in prison for 10 years. I hope the victim gets his $500,000.

Yikes.
1) 10 years is not enough sentence for the abuser.
2) The 500K is not enough compensation.

How could this have gone on so long? Didn't anyone else at the restaurant notice what was going on? That manager needs to serve every minute of his sentence, at a minimum, and needs to pay every penny of the $500,000.

Well that is terrible but this guy was "freed" in 2014, why is it suddenly a case of "slavery" now? Oh yeah everything is racist with its roots in slavery these days. Still how terrible to take advantage of a guy like that. You could understand how he might not have been paid as much since he was given a place to live in a nearby apartment but come on man this abuse and both involved should get what is coming to them.

Where was the black guys family all that time?

You are the only one to use the word "slavery" so far! Also posted article does not mention of slavery at all!! Looks like you are blaming everybody but you are the only one who has some hidden agenda here

I find this extremely baffling too. That no one else in the restaurant seemed to notice.

I think the restaurant owner and his brother should be charged in the same way a man who keeps a woman hostage in his basement for years for his own pleasure should be charged. This isn't just unfair labor practices - this is kidnapping and abuse.

Most of the headlines about this story use the word "slavery", and the word was actually used in the legal charges against the employer.

So there's that. Are you denying that this man with very low intellect was, in fact, enslaved?

And, despite what you say, the article in the original link DOES mention "slavery". All you have to do is do a google find in the article.

"We are talking about enslavement here," Abdullah Mustafa, then the president of the local chapter of the NAACP, said at the time.

So the article said he had an intellectual disability - even then I'm shocked that this POS was able to do this for years without him bailing.
