I saw an article today about this open letter. Don't just read the dismissive MSM headlines about the letter; READ IT! Here it is, straight from the source:
"WHO WE ARE
We are retired military leaders who pledged to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Although retired from active service, each of us feels bound by that oath to do what we can, in our capacity today, to protect our nation from the threats to her freedom."
Read the letter, it’s a totally partisan screed basically advocating for a ton of R positions that the R party favored during Trump’s term and over the last few years.
While these military officers certainly have a first amendment right to express their political beliefs, trying to pass this letter off as a nonpartisan warning about threats to the Constitution is nonsensical, considering the candidate I bet most of them voted for was the biggest threat to the Constitution that this country had seen in a very long time.
I didn't see much addressed in their letter that their status as former military would give them additional insight about. Do their opinions just automatically get extra weight because of their career choice?

Trump illustrated how little the Constitution provides checks and balances for Presidents. Most Presidents stuck to a Norm or customs but none of this was ever in the Constitution. I expect every President to continue the expansion of the Executive branch as congress is toothless and the Supreme Court often sides with the Executive Branch citing the fact that few checks on Executive power exist.
Every President pushes the margins of what is considered normal or acceptable as a President. Our short-sighted political discourse loses this fact all the time. Any President regardless of party will take advantage of the powers the President before him gained and will work to garner more. It should serve as a warning to BOTH Republicans and Democrats but we have one big problem in this country.
When YOUR guy (Either Party) is in power you cheer the expansion of power forgetting the guy YOU don't support gets to use them too. It is not totally our fault as congress allows it and even cheers it on when it helps their side of the aisle.
Right now there are Republicans who have already forgotten that Biden has all the expanded powers gained by Trump via the Supreme Court. Vice Versa
Of course he was, that you can’t see his blatant attempts to trash it as well as his total ignorance and lack of respect for it is bonkers.
