Did you know that the same sheriff's department started pulling school data on absenteeism, grades etc., to try and predict who might become juvenile delinquents?
There is a huge difference between trying to stop the influx of the school to prison pipeline and shutting down ones access to public transportation, or shutting down their debit card all for an opposing or inflammatory remark on social media.

That being said, what you've brought up does seem a bit "minority report-ish" , and I would think there are different ways to address the root causes of what sends someone down the criminal path.

Seems like we agree that there are people of an authoritarian bent on both sides of the political spectrum. So it might be worthwhile to keep an eye out for abuse of authority everywhere, rather than to make it a political club to swing at one side of the aisle - or the other.

That is quite funny:

“Other potential punishable offenses include spending too long playing video games, wasting money on frivolous purchases, and posting on social media”….

While I disagree with most things mentioned, I must say that the last point has merit…If anything, America could also benefit from that…

The "social credit" of China is basically a hype in western media.

Yes, it exists, but only for purchasing train/air tickets for the most part. Sometimes it may affect your chance to get loans too.
This system is not implemented on the national level so far, and has very little impact on people's work and everyday life.
