Proof positive in this thread alone. The post I made that you quoted, Dave Coe quoted it as well in post #36 and rebutted with a slightly detailed version of "lah lah lah, I am not listening, it will still work as I said because I said so"

Evidence, math, logic, finance, etc...all meaningless. It can work because we wish it so. Wishes trump reality because darn it, wishes sound better!

NO! It would just make everyone who makes Middle Class wages or less quit working permanently leading to more hyperinflation and the ultimate collapse of the economy and the service and leisure industry. Can't keep those restaurants open if no one is willing to cook or serve.

UBI took a huge huge hit in the past year as wages, inflation etc. all soared.

The idea that you just pay people to sit around and maybe work some side cash jobs is at this point sheer insanity.

What level of sick priviledge does one have to attain in order to look around the world and think "Gee, I deserve free food, shelter etc.".

Hubris.
So the thinking is someone like Bezos will take his (lottery winning) $1,000 a month and go home so he could sit around and collect the UBI?

The Great Resignation --- they changed jobs or rather they created their own. The day and age of the Internet, and people still have a hard time figuring it out.

Let's say an initiative was rolled out where everyone 18+ who makes less than 24K would receive 2K/ mo UBI (so a combined 48K annual 'earnings'):

Who would take a job for 25K? 26?.... 47K?

All of the low to mid hourly/ salary ranges would shift downward (just below the breakpoint) to accommodate whatever matrix is established in the name of helping the worker while actually filling the pockets of corporate interests and small businesses (and the politicians who will get donations off the additional profits to keep the façade going).

First off, you're incorrectly assuming that $1,000 will be enough once you start the program...it won't and just like the fight for $15 died, it will become *more*.

Secondly, an honest discussion doesn't involve invoking Jeff Bezos.

It involves understanding that a young man living with mommy and having no rent etc. can play video games all day and collect enough to get by and play all day.

Lastly, one would have to live in a more affluent bubble of entitlement not to be aware of the cash economy.

Take your UBI and work cash jobs, deal drugs etc. Dude could make another 15k working 2 days a week off the books. Basically using UBI to work as little as possible.

My relatives works healthcare in a semi-depressed area. Has a patient whose meth head kid sells their EBT for cash because they get food from the food banks instead and then also sells drugs to feed their habit. Wake up and look around at reality not involving normal functioning people.
