Or is this a SMEAR of Russia by the Globalist Elite and Trump was right about Russia is not the foe.... China is for it all? Is this just Liberal Media again RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA scaring??? Trump is still right it is CHINA CHINA CHINA???

Clearly, this is still not FULLY Declared RUSSIA. Why Pres Biden did not FORMALLY declare it was..... that will come when fully and OFFICIALLY that info is released by our Government. Still this is what the Media claiming their info about it is saying.......

https://finance.yahoo.com/news/cyber...222547504.html

From the Link.

(Bloomberg) -- A small group of private-sector companies, with help from several U.S. agencies, disrupted ongoing cyber-attacks against Colonial Pipeline Co. and more than two dozen other victims, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

Colonial was able to recover some stolen data because of the intervention, which stopped the flow of stolen data headed to Russia -- believed to be the ultimate destination, according to three people involved with or briefed about the investigation into the breach. Colonial was the victim of a ransomware attack last week in which the hackers stole nearly 100 gigabytes of data, a breach that caused the company to shut down operations of the biggest fuel pipeline in the U.S.
The hackers were using the servers that were disabled as a repository for storing information before relaying it to computers in Russia, the people said.

But Colonial’s data hadn’t yet been sent, which allowed investigators to retrieve it, the people said.

On Monday, President Joe Biden stopped short of blaming the Kremlin but said “there’s evidence” the hackers or the software they used are "in Russia."

*** This is of course what some label the LIB MEDIA on it.... RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA many Trumpist would decry... still EVIDENCE STILL GOES TO RUSSIA and PUTIN <<<

So once this is DECLARED RUSSIA BEHIND IT? Will Trumpist finally realize RUSSIA IS FULLY RED and its AIM IS NOT AS A FRIEND and NO BETTER THEN A CHINA?

The hackers being in Russia does not mean they were instructed by the govt.

Just like there are criminal hackers in the US and other countries.

The hacker group has issued a verified statement basically saying that they were just doing their usual $$$ shakedown and didn't know it would cause so much trouble (thus threatening their existance if not lives via the CIA).

Meanwhile, the feds are licking their chops on adding regulations.

Feds eye more oversight of pipelines after Colonial attack

The Biden administration and Capitol Hill are taking a closer look at the security in place for critical oil and gas utilities following the Colonial Pipeline shutdown.

Some officials have indicated that the ransomware attack on a pipeline that provides almost half of the East Coast’s energy may have unfolded as it did due to the relative lack of federal oversight of pipelines compared to other utilities.

“It is time to establish mandatory pipeline cybersecurity standards similar to those applicable to the electricity sector,” FERC Chairman Richard Glick and Commissioner Allison Clements said in a joint statement Monday.

“Simply encouraging pipelines to voluntarily adopt best practices is an inadequate response to the ever-increasing number and sophistication of malevolent cyber actors,” they said. “Mandatory pipeline security standards are necessary to protect the infrastructure on which we all depend.”

We don’t need more regulations. Let the company hire professionals to do what’s necessary to fix the problem. Or maybe Congress can work with them to figure out the best way to protect from further hacks. We don’t need more regulations.

True but unlike the hackers here if they are Russian they will be rewarded for their efforts in Russia. Google Maria Butina. Crime pays in Russia if its directed towards us. Butina has her own tv show in Russian state run TV.

That being said if this was Russian I am sure Putin's fingerprints are all over it.

If we're going to criticize the government for letting this happen (happening in another thread as we speak) how could the solution possibly be "let private businesses handle it themselves, no regulation"?

Either we need more regulation to prevent this type of thing from happening, or this isn't within the purview of our government; it cannot be both.

In any event, you're clearly misguided. Cyber defense is national security. If a hacking outfit can destabilize the gasoline industry on the East Coast, how is this not something that must be addressed by the federal government?

It seems you're fine with Congress legislating a solution, but not enacting a solution through regulation. Why?

True and why a President should not fully accuse or direct blame elsewhere per a obsession or agenda and deflection. The SMOKING-GUN connection is what will be dissected yet and to be found out if determined by the Feds..... some will still not believe it per in part a agenda and where the past 4-yrs was to deny was the main or substantial enemy as any other.

Clearly why this is speculative and whether those inside are releasing what is claimed to be current data linking to possibly Russia too? The Path IS YET TO BE PROVEN AND RELEASED AS SUCH.

Does not seem that Farther Right Conservative Media is reporting sources linking it to Russia. It is not part of the Trump agenda still strong and therefore more about a BIDEN FAILING ECONOMY THAT HAS GAS PRICES RISING and his administration owning it. It is labeled Liberal media that is.

Basically, nothing new under the sun in how news is reported. Bias on both sides even on using claimed inside sources etc.

The Rhetoric on C-D is even clear which kinds of threads get all the comments of blame and demonizing. Russia is not that game the worst to be promoted.... Far more is to demonize our own by political and racial divides and agendas that stick to there game-plan. Truth even by official Government release are downplayed if it goes against a agenda and rhetoric.

I did not gather that from the link you provided that this was about giving merely the Government a out to OVER-REGULATE? I only saw a NEED FOR MORE GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT instead of Private Companies alone.... as this is ALL ABOUT NATIONAL SECURITY TOO.

So Oversight may or may not mean more regulations..... such matters again of National Security are a issue that is not about mere regulations as this is the NEW WARFARE OF CYBER-HACKING.

In the end is is the Government that INVESTIGATES and DETERMINES who were the intended recipients of the Data stolen this time and resulting shutdown. THIS IS FULLY NOW A CASE OF NATIONAL SECURITY NOW.

A private Pipeline company now and Power Utility could be next and shutdown of our POWER GRID even ?.... So that is scary.

Worked great so far, right?

This is depressingly like the situation that triggered iron-clad regulations on steam boilers, back in the lat 19th century. Surely companies will hire conscientious professionals, no one wants boiler explosions.

And, predictably, in the name of expediency and cost savings, said companies cut corners, took shortcuts, blocked the safety valves, and - kaboom. With depressing regularity. So - government sighed, rolled their eyes, and worked with actual professionals to establish rules that came with the force of law behind them. Because it's apparently the only thing that works.

And I don't know if you've noticed, but boiler explosions are kinda rare now.
