If the ID cost nothing out of pocket to all voting age citizens, including time off work/transportation costs, etc., yes. Voter IDs then make sense. If it is implemented in a way that disenfranchises the millions who are currently without ID, then it needs to be reconsidered. One exceptional case (such as the original story) does not negate the risk to democracy of voter disenfranchisement.

My view exactly. And make voting easier for all voting age citizens, not harder. I'm a proponent of an election day national holiday but that is a completely different topic.
