Not always as exciting, but a safer more normal lifestyle.
If you have a bidet, you won’t have to buy toilet paper ever.

Oh stop with your ridiculous arguments.

No man is so powerful as to shift a whole American culture in four months....and if he can -- he's not the doofus you all would like to think Biden. is.

The hoarding of gas and toilet paper had nothing to do with the division in the country...it's selfish human nature.

I’m going to go out on a limb here and say that the “all about me” zeitgeist bloomed under the trump administration is partially responsible for the level of selfishness of today. Hard to dial it back after those 4 years.

Leftism is driven by selfishness, not altruism. It may speak kind words, but its driving force is envy, hatred, and resentment.

"Socialists don't care about the poor, they just hate the rich." - George Orwell

"Égalité is an expression of envy. It means, in the real heart of every Republican, 'No one shall be better off than I am'." - Alexis De Tocqueville

America is an empire of strangers in a cynical competition for jobs/status/power. Everyone doing what is in their perceived self-interest. Anyone who claims otherwise is a liar, who just doesn't want you robbing or looting his business(while he happily loots you with the help of the government).

Let’s get into this Frank.

We’re both business owners (property owners). We both get our daily edicts at gunpoint from the Church of the State. We take our raping, adjust, and try to proceed in commerce.

Agree so far?

So when we are through with our raping (forced regulations/rules) we begin our private exchanges (actual capitalism)

Let me ask you this: have you ever had an individual in one of your private associations ask you if a policy/standard you have is your decision or you’re simply doing it because daddy government says so?

No?

Well then, how do you know what policy is there due to State edict vs. personal choice unless you ask? Answer: you don’t.

You assume all rules/regulations are at the behest of the property owner unless you specifically ask. And you know this.

Of course, Americans did the exact opposite, frantically hoarding as much fuel as possible, as if the world was ending, in plastic and tupperware containers as well as gas cans.

Several states (including states that aren't even supplied by the pipeline) have declared states of emergency because of this insanity, this self-inflicted "fuel shortage."

I'm watching the response to a relatively minor disruption in the gas supply in the US, and I have to wonder - what happens in the future when there are real shortages of energy, goods or materials, or the next cyberattack on US infrastructure isn't so minor?

We're heading into very dark times. May God help us all, because it's clear that the US public isn't capable of not doing the absolutely worst thing possible in any sort of emergency.
I agree. We have created this with “me” “me” “me” spoiled entitled brats. We’re in real trouble if we ever have a world war and there is a call to arms.

True, however I do think there is some significant influence by Internet echo chambers.

The "all about me" stuff has been going on longer than that. People were panic buying ammunition between 2008 and 2013. Right after 9-11, people were panic buying gold, oil, and other commodities. And the Covid-19 pandemic is not the first time we've had people stripping the toilet paper supply. This happened in 1973. This "all about me" mentality has been taking place for decades. As much as I couldn't stand Trump as a President, I'm reluctant to blame this all on him. He certainly played a role, but not as big as you think. This has been going on for years upon years.

This is no different than the self inflicted "toilet paper shortage" we had last year.

Hoarding by selfish self-centered people for no good reason.
