one thing I've learned is with news aggregation - like this yahoo article - you have to go back to the source, and you have to consider the facts reported and go well past the enticing headline.
Now, that doesn't mean an intervention isn't needed, and perhaps that is where we can "all" agree.
The boy's "extensive criminal record" seems to have begun 1 month ago, when he was arrested:

that reads to me as he was arrested on April 12 for involvement in 2 robberies.
he was arrested on Wed May 12, for the attack on the Asian man that occurred May 8

If any 11-year-old has an extensive criminal record, then his parents should be arrested and brought in for questioning as well as his close associations who are older than him.
Step #1 - immediate and irreversible sterilization. Yes, even at this age, hopefully before he breeds. Criminals bred him and he will only produce more.
I agree with others that he will likely be dead by 18 and certainly by 21. Lessen the damage to society in the future by pouring some bleach in the gene pool.
Step #2 - figure out what to do with him in the here and now. It’s not going to work anyhow.
He is a victim of being raised on the streets of the ghetto and probably no father and a mother who doesn't give a s**t and is probably a drug addict and a prostitute. If intervention is not done soon this child is a lost soul who will spend the rest of his life in and out of prison or will be dead before he is 20yrs old. Not to mention how many innocent people will be victim of his crimes. Stop giving certain people a free ride and within one generation you will see an improvement.
Yep, and when he has a fatal confrontation with police, BLM and ANTIFA will burn down and terrorize cities, because he was “just an innocent kid”, and the police where just “hunting” him.
Even the courts don’t know what to do with these hardened kids. He is a kid. Put him in Juvee, you make him worse, but leave him unpunished on the street and he learns he can get away with anything.
It is a no-win. I am stumped.
The Courts and District Attorneys I’d these .Democrat run Cities know exactly what they are doing.
Let Criminals out of Jails & Prisons and then let them go free when they commit more crimes.

We have a problem in this country that no on is going to admit. Meanwhile how dare the media assume their gender (young men). Im making a lot of assumptions myself, such as these thugs have horrible parents.
Put him and his mother in jail because obviously there's no parenting going on and he'll end up in jail anyways.
Putting him in jail is the WORST thing that can be done!
Im not too keen on my tax dollars going towards 'furthering his criminal skills and contacts'.
