It was only a few generations ago that cousin-marriage was common among both Protestants and Catholics in the U.S. And it's still common among Christians in some parts of the world.
The Catholic Church forbids cousin marriage, Islam embraces it.
The percent of inbred Christians globally is around 1-2% compared to 50% for Muslims. Moreover, that share isn't decreasing.
Um... are you seriously arguing that there aren't tons of inbred Christians in fundie circles? Come on. Have you ever been to West Virginia or Kentucky? What religion do you think these folks subscribe to??
Yes, aware of that, and also the British Royal family, which needs to go, is also inbred. The Queen and her husband were cousins.
But Google a map of the most inbred countries and you'll see it's mostly Muslim majority dictatorships across the Middle East. And they often immigrate and keep doing it. Imagine if all of America was like the most backwards part of West Virginia.
I wondered the same thing. I don't see cousin marriage as being a terrible thing, especially between 2nd or 3rd cousins.
Americans are brainwashed into believing that unless you marry someone of another race, you're inbred. The reason for this is because the government wants to promote exogamous marriages in order to help integrate/assimilate the country and prevent parallel societies. Societies where people marry their cousins tend to be very tribal/clannish.
Ironically, everything Americans believe about inbreeding is backwards. Your ideal genetic partner is actually your third-cousin.
Moreover, the country with the highest rate of cousin-marriage is Pakistan. And in Pakistan there is actually a positive correlation between cousin-marriage and wealth.
That doesn't mean inbreeding isn't a real thing, but it isn't what most people believe. And the risk of genetic disorders in even first-cousins is barely higher than the general population.
Albert Einstein and Charles Darwin married their first cousin.
It's sustainable for at least a hundred years. This is still a pretty much a big empty country once you get out of a few major cities.
And both in population and economy, your either growing or shrinking, and shrinking is never good.
Shrinking is good, for the environment and resources. How many times do I have to tell you people that many area are public such as Wildlife Refuges, USFS, BLM, national parks and monuments, state and municipal properties? There are also water issues in much of the arid west and vast ranches occupy 1000s of acres. Some of you need to visit on the ground rather than fly over and make judgements.
Judging from the Pictures from the Weekends a lot of Muslim-Americans were participating at the #FreePalestine protests. Was it wrong to let so many immigrants from the Arab World into the United States?
Are you asking about all immigrants or just the Muslim ones?
