Lol. Did he also wait for the current school year to end? (TX order is valid June 4th onwards, and the school ended today, and of course in regards to the next school year, the ban has no meaning since masks were not going to be mandated in the first place).
Houston ISD finishes on June 11th, so there's going to be a week of confusion, and many parents in the area are going to refuse to send their kids to school if masks aren't required for that last week. Most of the comments I've seen ahve been on the order of being OK with no masks in the Fall, assuming there's not a big surge in the Summer, but lots of discomfort right now.

Leave it to a Republican governor to use his power to control cities. Republicans say local is better unless local is Democratic. Just like Republicans loved federalism as long as a Republican president controlled the federal.
