As if we needed this, we are now seeing that the flu strain expected this year has mutated and the shots we got are not likely to give us much protection from infection. You know the line by now - but they may protect against serious disease. In any case, this means more people on top of all the covid cases heading for hospitals next month that are already filled to the doors.

The composition of the flu shot is always a very educated guess. They have to decide in May what the composition will be. Some years are better than others.

Sometimes you read a post that causes a loud guffaw.

This was one of them.

Doesn't the flu have many strains anyway and the shot for flu is nothing more than a SWAG (Scientific Wild Ass Guess)?

https://www.cdc.gov/flu/about/viruses/types.htm

Seems people don't research before restating was should already be known....I think that's called gas lighting....

In its best year, the efficacy of the flu shot is never higher than 40%.

My primary care physician is constantly pimping the flu shot.

I said to him, "Do you know what you would be saying to me if you were as successful in med school as the flu shot is in preventing the flu?"

"Would you like fries with your order?"
