Before passengers get on a plane, U. S airlines might weigh passengers in order to comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules.
Airline carriers are tasked with calculating the weight and balance of their aircraft to ensure its within allowable limits for the safety of the plane.
With obesity rates rising in the U.S the standard numbers used by the airline industry to average out passenger weight is likely outdated says View From the Wing.
Weighing select passengers at airports would establish a more accurate number for average passenger weight so the number of seats available on flights can be adjusted accordingly.
will small people pay less? answer is doubtful, there will be a basic rate up to a certain weight and then more above that.
Once upon a time i used to work for a retailer. Before then I always saw the larger size clothing being priced at a higher price the argument being it cost more in material to make. One of the first things i noticed when i started seeing our cost, what we paid the manufacture, we actually paid clothing manufactures the same price regardless of size. But charged our customers more for larger sizes and certainly didn't charge less for smaller sizes. It was pure profiteering on the silent group of people who brought the lie. And as an FYI this was not some small retailer but one of the largest in the country.

I see some retailers still charge an extra dollar or two over the cost of a regular sized piece of clothing for Plus sizes.
