Democrats always say this when the pendulum swings their way in politics, only to be astonished over and over again when it swings back to the right.
Republicans have won the popular vote in a presidential election exactly once since 1988. Say what you want, but the party's popularity has been low for a while now.
You would think the republicans would own the country every election. However, they may never control congress or the WH again. REALITY. Not rhetoric. At least in our lifetimes. It took a complete anomaly in Trump (Who basically fractured the party and weakened them in the end) for them to have a shot

Republican states by far take more federal money than democratic run states.
Purely my opinion: Personal responsibility by the GOP would be admitting they are becoming less relevant, and asking what they need to change to better serve the American public. It would mean the GOP considers they might be at fault for their declining support.
If you get all your news from the broadcast media, Democrats own the country. And this is the case for WAY too many people.

Exactly, and this has been going on for a long time. I remember the 2004 elections, back when I used to read the New York Times every day. If you had only gotten your news from the NYT, you would have thought that the American people were going to string George W. Bush up like Mussolini. Instead, he was re-elected. Most of the news media is badly out of touch, and it's only gotten worse.
Sure wish you were right, 'Ro, since regressive, weak republicans are like a gigantic ball-and-chain around the country's ankle.
But as long as the antiquated, rigged electoral college system (which favors the weak republicans) remains in place, they'll still have a shot at the White House.
Of course, on a truly level playing field (national popular vote) weak republicans can't seem to compete for the WH anymore.
And their disgraceful, pathetic voter suppression laws and gerrymandering will also keep the weak republicans competitive for the House.
They're like the slow kids in the schoolyard who need head starts when they race other kids to the fence.
The Senate is basically a joke of an institution at this point when you look at some of these pathetic dolts (tuberville, barrasso, mcconnell, et al) from all these bush-league red states...
Excellent analogy. The Republicans are the fat, dumb, lazy spoilt brats of rich parents who get a head start every race for being “special.” They still lose sometimes, but instead of losing every time as they would if the race was truly fair they win some too. When they win, they gloat like little babies .... see, I am too a winner! In your face leftist losers!
