There's all sorts of fuzzy math and sensationalized news stories coming from right wing publications as well, such as that gateway one. Both sides are guilty. What the mainstream media is more guilty of than anything is insulting our intelligence. They don't seem to think we can handle facts and statistics, but rather want to give people vague assurances, and peddle narratives, trying to tell people what to think, rather than just providing the facts, which only makes people that much more suspicious.

In fact I bet if a news organizations used the "Wait until the facts come in" approach, they would be out of business in 6 months. People want instant "I told you so" not truth.
Should Fact Checkers Wait Until They Know the Facts Before Fact Checking?
It would help. Then at least they would know when they are being fed bullshiite by the sources you mentioned (politifact, CNN, Vox and others).
But if the self-appointed "fact-checkers" are trying to spread bullshiite instead of the truth, that's another matter. Then they might not be interested in the facts.

Yep, it is all about first to report and break a story, not who gets it right. It has been that way since at least 2009 when TMZ went legit by reporting that Michael Jackson died. I at the time didn't take it seriously since TMZ was known for shotty reporting of celebrities or being just a celebrity dirt rag.
The purpose of "fact checkers" isn't to check facts it's to make sure the left's narrative gets the final word even on stories that are not on venues they have control over. Heck they even fact check the Babylon Bee sometimes to make sure they get their little "well ackshually" in even when they are being parodied.

Nailed it. This is the core issue that is frankly primarily responsible for tearing this country apart. There is no such thing as news outlets anymore. None of them report “just the facts” as they were always supposed to do. None of them can avoid putting their personal spin on whatever the facts actually are. Anyone actually remember when the news was the news? When it was unbiased and credible? It would be great if all of these outlets went back to reporting the FACTS without injecting their personal feelings into everything.
CNN, MSNBC, CBS, NBC all slant their stories to the left.
FOX, OAN, and others all slant their stories to the right.
