Well well, this is very convenient for the CDC and FDA. Apparently recently, even the very spotty counted COVID19 breakthrough infections among Americans vaccinated for COVID (the clinics often don't report vaccine status at all) burst through 10,000 people and rising fast. And on top of, data are showing the mortality rate of breakthrough COVID19 for Americans with the vaccine was around the same as for unvaccinated, even though we've been repeatedly getting told, "the vaccines don't stop the spread, they just make it less severe". Do they even do that? Well, faced with bad news, the CDC's solution has been.. to stop counting the bad news.

So even though the large majority of COVID19 cases are mild and don't require hospitalization even before any vaccines were available in 2020, the CDC has just up and decided to stop counting the large majority of COVID breakthrough cases. Also called "massaging the numbers" and "faking the stats" for those of us in the real world, it's not like it even costs anything extra to gather up that data. Even in cases when we get spikes of COVID infection, the CDC's dumb policy is now making it so it's impossible to tell whether a new COVID case was in a vaccinated person or not-- it was already hard enough before-- so every report on this is now going to lead to misleading information in the calculations. And apparently even the CDC knows it's out of line because its own people (including Fauci himself) are already talking about the time-line to get vaccine boosters shots since the immunity is wearing off and more and more vaccinated people getting infected.
The New York Times and its commenters are probably the most pro-vaccine group out there, and even its own commenters on that article are furious about this and attacking the CDC. Funniest part, at our current vacation spot, we're heading off on a tour in about an hour going through most of the weekend, and throughout the week, the tour operator was saying vaccinated people don't have to wear masks. But this morning they changed it and sent out an urgent alert saying everybody has to wear masks, apparently several vaccinated people at the resort are coming down with COVID and the hotels won't let us in without a mask. Even our own doctors have more-less told us not to trust CDC guidelines, so if even the doctors and nurses don't trust the CDC or FDA anymore, how are us plebes in the general public supposed to? Isn't this the same the Soviet Union used to do before it fell?

We're discussing an access-locked article about the CDC investigating mild infections? Huh, okay. Whatever. Well the priority for the CDC is breakthrough infections of COVID-19 that cause hospitalizations. They already know there are breakthrough cases, but if they don't require hospitalization then the vaccine has done its job.

Really pathetic. Especially when considering one of the CDC's functions is to collect data and relay it to the public.
Many scientists and researchers are upset over the CDC decision. They believe all data should be preserved so it can be studied later.
I guess there are just too many breakthrough cases so the CDC doesn't want to report them because then people will just not bother to get vaccinated.
CDC will count you only if you are hospitalized or die.
It's amazing how many people jump straight to politics versus looking at the shady thing the CDC is doing. The sheep don't surprise with their lack of critical thinking skills!
