The following is merely a direct personal observation.

Except for chokepoints where they know they can gouge you (the Flatbush Ave. approach to the Manhattan Bridge, the Belt Parkway itself...

...the average price for a gallon of gasoline was $2.49 from Dec 2016 to Mar 2020.

During the lockdowns, the price of gasoline dropped since they had to price it to move since far less people were using it, and the average price became $2.09 from Apr 2020 to Nov 2020.

Once some restrictions were lifted, and more people were out and about, the average price increased from $2.19 to $2.49 from Dec 2020 to Jan 2021.

When Joe Biden was inaugurated in Jan 2021 one of the first things he did was announce the closure of the Keystine pipeline, amongst a host of other anti-oil initiatives. From Feb 2021 to May 2021, the average price ballooned from $2.59 to $3.19

----------

The following is speculation ...which I hope is wrong.

I hypothesize that this price increase, along with many companies suddenly going from paying roughly $9 per hour to $15 per hour, will result in significant price increases even for food. There may also be a significant increase in arrests of people who weren't just shoplifting batteries or pills but, simple food.

There will be a drastic increase in crime, even outside of the usual demographic, due to the desperation that results from price increases of nearly 50% on everything across the board.

I don't know what that man wanted to do. He just made everything worse with his forced healthcare.

We bought a new Outback in October, and with only 3,000 miles on it finally got to do a road trip this weekend, to Portland Oregon from the Seattle area. Round trip was about 580 miles, and we got 31 mpg going mostly 70 with the AC on all the way back. We filled up there and without sales tax it was just $3.19, over 50 cents less than here. Before the pandemic we would do this trip 3-4 times a year, also to Vancouver, B.C. Gas price is not much of an issue, but is more so when towing our 25' trailer with the F150 5.0 V8 getting 10-12 mpg.
