Many people over the years have told me they would never live in the ghetto, they avoid it like the plague, or words to that effect. Do you know what they had in common?
There are certain people I don't care to be around because I don't care for their attitudes which is dictated by their culture. It's not really a racist view as there are certain people of my own race that rub me the wrong way to and that I don't care to be around.
All my experiences with black people in the workplace has been quite positive (fortune 500 company) but a dirty little secret is that they admittedly have to act a certain way around certain people or face physical harm in certain urban areas. It was a real eye opener for me but I guess it makes total sense. Classy whites don't like trashy whites. Actually we can expand it classy people do not like trashy people across all races.
Personal experiences? I argue very little. But "experiences" based on what folks see on TV and in the media, quite a bit. I've found that personal experiences with people who are "different" from you actually decreases racism as people see that we have much more in common than we have different.
Yes, I think constantly watching the news can definitely skew your world views in a number of ways. It makes the world seem more violent and threatening than it is in reality. Not that it isn't violent at times, but I'd say most folks very rarely witness violence in person.

I've found the exact opposite to be true. You don't go to jail and come out less racist. My nephew made me laugh because he said going to college was making him racist. He went to Georgia State in Atlanta, and told me that it was apparent that the intellectual level of the blacks in college was significantly below that of whites to the point that he didn't think the vast majority of them should even be there.
I was basically an anti-racist for most of my life. I became racist when I became interested in science, evolution, psychology, and human-nature. When you read about racial/genetic differences, everything you noticed in school and in life but never gave much thought to, is all explained.
But keep in mind, racism is not antipathy. I don't hate my cat, even though I recognize that he is in fact a cat.
Stop with the racism bs. It will never end if people keep bringing it up.
