If there is one thing liberals can learn from conservatives, it's how to live on $20,000 or less a year. Hats off to you guys. I can't even cover my property tax and insurance with $20k.

Why am I not surprised to find out you're an elitist preaching your leftist dogma from a perch of privilege?

We reap what we sow.
Enjoy that service based economy. That is what I was told back in the late 90's as I watched entire industries being offshored. This is the fault of both parties.
And with the recent surge of violent crime in many high COL democrat controlled cities, many more people every day are cashing in their chips, packing up their crap and getting out of Dodge.
That was one of many reasons I moved from WA to FL. After 10 years of being surrounded by liberal idiotic leadership it was time to pack up and move. I got a job in Florida making the same money I made in Washington... got a house that is 35% bigger with a pool for about 40% less money than I paid for my house in Washington... the gas prices are lower (almost $1 per gallon but that's steadily decreasing in Biden's America)... lower taxes... more sunshine...
... and the best governor in the nation in Ron DeSantis.
Glad to be away from Washington and their idiot leader Jay Inslee along with Seattle mayor Jenny Dumbkan and the rest of the clowns on the city council.
I've never once voted Democratic and will be doing my part to keep Florida red.

A couple earning $40,000 can live decently in Tennessee. I just did a quick search, and there are PLENTY of 2-bedroom houses renting in the $700 range, and apartments on the $600 range. If we are talking about a single person, two people can join up to rent one of them.
To put it in perspective, I was earning $17,000 in 1982. My rent was around $500. I had enough left over to go down to Georgetown clubs with my friends (I was a young chickadee), buy a car, and even treat myself to a cruise.
Oh, and if you can’t even cover your property tax with $20,000, you are one of the rich elite liberals who live in an affluent neighborhood, far away from the consequences of liberal policies.
It's sad to see blind partisanship get to the point where mocking low income people (which includes a disproportionate amount of minorities) and boasting about one's own wealth isn't even registering internally.
Generally explains why some people are so out of touch with diversity in this country and thus financially blind to things like importing illegal labor to suppress wages.
Thank you for posting this. Exactly what I thought as I read. I completely agree with you.

Thanks.
I wish I had a dollar for every time a transplant has moved to TN because of low property taxes, cheaper housing and low cost of living in general.
I looked at the TNjobs referred to in the article and the first 5 listings were between 47K and 131K. Of course those were professional jobs in the metro areas. I didnt browse enough to find the fast food/service jobs at 20K/year.
BTW my property taxes are under $500/year for a house on 42 acres with a pond, creek, barn, pasture and well water.

What a misleading bunch of crap.
I just went to the job site and randomly clicked through 7 or 8 jobs - only one even listed a salary and that was $13-$14 an hour. Which is $27K-$29K a year.
So I dug into it ... here:
Quote:
Of the 257,000 postings available on June 10, only 3 percent of the jobs (8,485) publicly listed annual salaries above $20,000.
Most of the jobs - by far the majority - don't even list a salary at all. That's where the 3% number comes from.
It's not that only 3% pay more than $20K - it's that only three percent even post a salary at all.

Also, what Poverty Guidelines they used seemed to have slipped by most. They used the guidelines for a family of 3. Why not use the Guidelines for a household of 1 or 2? Not only would it make the jobs that are being posted look more desirable, but the percentage of jobs above those guidelines would also be significantly higher. Both points would go against their slant so they used what they could to make it look like a worst-case scenario.
Just curious if many of them are part time summer tourism jobs?
