I agree, why should I be responsible or feel quilty, for r something I didn’t do? I’m not against acknowledging it and understand why the day has meaning, but I’m not responsible for the past.
Clue me in, how does someone celebrating a meaningful historical date cause you to feel responsible for what happened in the past?
Aren't you assigning a negative meaning to something that isn't even there? This celebration has been happening for over a hundred years. It's not some kind of recent 'get whitey' political maneuver, but people assigning some kind of ignorant motive to it will certainly not help matters any.

But that's the climate that the leftists have created. Blame whitey, for everything. That's why the idea of making Juneteenth a holiday makes me a little nervous; because I worry that it'll become just be another "struggle session" in which white people get flagellated because of what our ancestors did.

I was responding to a poster, not the historical event.

So the solution is to go out immediately and make negative remarks about the fact that more people are celebrating as it's becoming more widely known? Wouldn't it just be better to acknowledge that this is a holiday that should have become a federal holiday decades ago and just ACCEPT it, instead of immediately trying to turn it into another "us vs them" (black/white, left/right, etc) problem. If you go looking for problems in any situation you're sure to find them.

The solution is to honor and learn from the past, without blaming the people of today for what went on back then. If people can celebrate or commemorate Juneteenth without casting blame on today's white people for slavery, then go for it. Whether or not it should be made a national holiday is a matter of opinion.

Seems like today's "white people" are eager to be blamed so they can be angry about it.

Unfortunately a shooting will occur at the juneteenth celebration in my area. Always does. There are good decent people trying to enjoy themselves and the thug culture has to ruin it.
I see that my insurance company sent out a message saying it will be closed in observation of "Juneteenth." Schools are having end of the year "Juneteenth" celebrations. Is this happening a lot in other areas? I don't have anything against the idea of Juneteenth, but why are we making up new holidays and cancelling traditional ones like Columbus Day?
“The Senate unanimously approved a bill Tuesday that would make Juneteenth, the date commemorating the end of chattel slavery in the United States, a legal public holiday.
The holiday is celebrated on June 19, and it began in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas learned they had been freed under the Emancipation Proclamation.
President Abraham Lincoln had signed the proclamation outlawing slavery years earlier, but it was not until 1865 that those in bondage in Texas were freed.”
