That's a stupid statement. So let me understand, because they were a few Blacks who found freedom, we should ignore the fact that the rest were brutally enslaved.
Wrong.
Along with the thousands of freed blacks in the north, you do know there were thousands of blacks who owned slaves in the south right?
Quote:
In 1830 there were 3,775 black (including, mixed race) slaveholders in the South who owned a total of 12,760 slaves
What’s the point of being “woke” if you ignore all the important parts?
History rarely follows a liberals narrative where blacks were permanent victims. Between the thousands of free blacks in the north and thousands of black slave owners, these were the economic foundations that propelled modern black prosperity in ways Africa never did.
By comparison, let’s take a look at the descendants of slaves in Brazil, Cuba, and Haiti and its clear about who won the African diaspora: black Americans
Next we'll be told white folk celebrating that day is racist.
Hey, if my job wants me to take a day off because they've closed, I'll take it. I don't work on Saturdays, but they're giving those of us who don't a paid holiday day that we have to take before the end of the year. I got that last year, too, because NY gave the State workers the day off. I'm not a state worker, but my employer contracts with NY, but they didn't have time to arrange for that day off, so they have us another floating holiday last year, too.
So is June 19 now considered Black Independence Day ?
No man, it’s Juneteenth, not Independence Day. Just like the black national anthem. Don’t you know that assimilating to the dominant culture is racist, white, and selling out.
Juneteenth just sounds so much cooler.
Who cares about the English language? That’s racist.
I just read that the post office will be open on Friday and Saturday.
Good to know, as I've been scrambling trying to figure out what is going to be open and what will be closed tomorrow, after this 11th hour announcement.
I have no objection to making Juneteenth a Federal holiday, but it sure would have been a lot easier from a planning standpoint, if it became effective in 2022, instead of less than 24 hours after approval. Also, I guess it will be observed on the 19th (or the prior Friday or following Monday if it falls on a weekend), unlike MLK and most other holidays that are observed on the closest Monday?
Maybe they were studying the L.A., Portland, MN, and all the other riots which are a blot on our beautiful country for many decades now and Tulsa is nothing in comparison.
Riots, Democrat and MEDIA supported violence, looting, arson, deaths of innocents, arson of public and private property, cop cars and stations. All supported by the Leftists here and elsewhere but to deflect they dwell on ancient history like slavery. They are pure anti American evil.
And why is that, do you suppose?
Doesn’t it bother you that this, like the Tulsa massacre, wasn’t considered important enough for many learn about in schools?
Sorry, I grew up in Southern California school system, apparently it wasn’t important enough to teach anything about it.
I see that my insurance company sent out a message saying it will be closed in observation of "Juneteenth." Schools are having end of the year "Juneteenth" celebrations. Is this happening a lot in other areas? I don't have anything against the idea of Juneteenth, but why are we making up new holidays and cancelling traditional ones like Columbus Day?
