I watched the video, and I did not think that the Capitol police needed to shoot her.
I thought it reckless to shoot into the crowd blindly as he did. But I also understand
his impulse, the scene was absolute chaos and nobody had ever really been placed in
that position there to defend it from a mob of angry citizens like that.
I do understand after seeing the storming of the hallways why he did it thought.
I as a female veteran have compassion for Ms. Babbitt because she was used and
abused with back to back multiple deployments. Clearly she was a traumatized
veteran, her mental health needs were never addressed. She clearly exhibited
signs of toll in her social media posts, they were heartbreaking to watch.
I as a person living in Texas would never dream of going into a private property
for any reason whatsoever, given that guns are so prevalent as I would assume
the property owner would see me as a threat so as to shoot me on sight.
There are no easy answers. I would not have stormed the Capitol like she did, but
nowadays guns are seen as the ultimate enforcer.
