All I've heard since Katrina was whine, whine, whine, would you like some cheese with your whine? I haven't heard any thankfulness for the United States federal government, Louisiana Government, and the National Guard. You may disagree with the portion of aid and help, but the underlying criticism has masked any gratefulness.
My grandparents lost their home in a flood in Sugar City Idaho ( or what was) lots of people did. Guess what no help. They rebuilt on their own. Who would have flood insurance in Idaho? The whole town didnt. No whining, no give me,give me. People need to pull themselves up, do what needs to be done.

I wish I could find a quote from a woman whose community was destroyed by the asian tsunami. Anyway, what we didn't see much on TV was all the carnage that was happening in New Orleans (robbing, pillaging, etc) and this was broadcast overseas. The woman, from a Third World country, was appalled at the behavior of the citizens of New Orleans and how many people reacted to the rescue efforts, etc. This woman made a comment something like, “Our people, even the ones who lost everything, wanted to help the others who were suffering. Not even a single tourist was mugged. With what is happening in the US, we can see who the civilized people are.” Pretty sad isn't it? Rather than be grateful, many were whining and looting (something that didn't really happen in the whole region during the tsunami). These people of N.O. EXPECTED the government to come in and fix everything, in Asia it was a different story and it should humble us all in this country. We should take a lesson from those brave souls who lost it all and managed to stick it out.

I don't live in Louisiana nor would I, but when the looting and the total "trash" was going on, I was actually embarrassed thinking about people in other countries including some of my relatives watching it.
It is still an embarrassment that so many of them can't even help themselves. Great adjective for much of the situation ~ uncivilized. N.O. was a disgrace to our nation and unfortunately, many other areas are as well. Hopefully, they won't make the world news too.
I don't mean to be harsh but because of the behavior in N.O. and how sickening it was, I was much more sympathetic to the brave tsunami victims. That was heart-wrenching to watch and had a totally different outcome of an even worse disaster.
where to live. Some people have returned to work, still live there but are suffering. We are in the richest country, and cannot afford to help these people? It is mind-boggling. Comments from people who have been there, please. It is still in shambles.
